Ok...now...get Noccioni.
He's asked I not say at this time. I'm sorry, Kori. I'll try to get a link soon.Quote:

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing.
why? so he can ride the bench for the rest of his career and play 4 minutes a game?
Good move. Be nice to have him around after Horry hangs em up next year. I'm wondering if the re-signing of Oberto and Bonner cut into the 2008 Plan
Bonner is a deceptively key part of the Spurs' future. Outside of Horry, he's the only perimeter big the Spurs have on their team or in Europe. Oberto, Elson, Butler, Splitter and Mahinmi are all nice to have, but there are situations where you have to put four shooters around Duncan.
Bonner improved his rebounding greatly from his first two years in the league and I think he'll shoot better down the road. Shooters always struggle in their first year in San Antonio. And really, I don't know if the 38.3% Bonner shot last year on three-pointers can be considered struggling.
As a future 7th or 8th man in a rotation, Bonner is a nice piece.
Yeah good to see Bonner come back.
People forget how damn good he was playing when he got hurt.
He was a candidate to move into the starting lineup ahead of Oberto and Elson.
Props Matt :tu
if that's true, that means there are zero roster spots available if the Spurs sign Marcus Williams, barring someone being traded (Barry, Butler, Elson, Beno) or flat out cut (Beno, White).
So no Scola . . . Mahinmi . . . or even Nocioni in Scola's place . . . or any free agent with the MLE.
This also puts the finishing touches on killing the 08 plan, along with Oberto and Vaughn's re-ups.
He's probably gonna take all of Horry's minutes in the reg season. Probably rotate with Oberto and Elson.Quote:

This was all expected. That's why some of us have been talking about the need for roster spots since the beginning of last year.Quote:

Sure, there is a roster crunch but there are two spots still not set in stone (Williams and White), while it's probably possible to trade away Udrih or Butler in some sort of mini salary dump.
It depends. If the cap number jumps up due to the new TV contract and Bonner and Oberto's contracts are small enough, the Spurs could still have some money to spend. The Vaughn signing isn't of much consequence since the difference between his cap number and the number automatically given to empty roster spots isn't that great.Quote:

However, I'm all for Nocioni and the death of the 2008 plan. :hat
If the Spurs were going to trade on of those guys for picks I think it would have happened already.
At most I think Beno gets straight up cut right before training camp with the Spurs doing the old "We cut him early so he can sign on with another team right now early in camp" speech.
shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Beno can still be traded for literally nothing I think to Cleveland.
That's okay, I complete understand. We truly appreciate the information. I'm very happy for him.Quote:

Sam, for those of us that have been Bonner supporters for a while.
Tell him we look forward to his hijinx and three pointers for a long time :)
I for one feel hes a Malik Rose with a jumper for the future.
Just needs to work on that defense.
I doubt Jackie.Quote:

Elson probobly before Butler.
I think they'd trade Jackie before Elson because I'm not sure Elson is worth anything to anyone. At least Jackie is young.
I'm indifferent as to which one they decide to move. Elson pulled a disappearing act for too many stretches, including, most importantly, the playoffs.Quote:

Well Jackie Butler is way too young to give up on, and way too skilled.Quote:

Elson is cheap, talented, and pegged as a Dirk defender(and he hasn't proven he isn't)...I have a feeling the Spurs want to hold on to him...
Keep in mind...Elson was a lot better this season than Oberto was his first season.

At least some of these guys have some built up potential. He doesn't have shit.
2-8 -- Mavs' record in their last 10 playoff games.

How many more samples do you need before you can size up that his game consists of getting fans happy once every three contests when he dunks and yells?

Didnt see much of Bonner but he did play good before the injury. A good option on the bench and he is pretty young too. Hope he came cheap.

Good stuff. I like his hustle, and he's about as close as we're going to get to replacing Horry's skillset (although certainly not his legendary clutchness and intangibles). The kid has potential, glad he's staying, and hopefully he's learning some Horry-tricks along the way...
When we see Bonner hip-check Devin Harris into the scorer's table, we'll know that Rob's work is done.
Howabout a game winning three from the top of the key by Bonner in game 7 of the WCF in Dallas next year?Quote:

Bonner does represent something that Pop needed several times this past season. A Big who can actually score when the well has gone dry, while helping at the other end with decent team defense and rebounding.
Example: A night in March @ Sacramento. Corliss Williamson was abusing Robert Horry and Fab like a banshee in the post. The Spurs missed shots left and right and Pop needed a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. In came Bonner with a little offense and some excellent defense to help stem the tide until Manu re-engaged and Tony hit a circus shot to pull out a tough win.
Bonner hustles his rear-end off and is sometimes just what the team needs to snap out of funks.

Spurs will re-sign Bonner
Web Posted: 07/03/2007 11:37 PM CDT
San Antonio Express-News
Three days into the NBA's free-agency period, the Spurs have accomplished their goal of keeping their roster virtually intact.
The Spurs reached agreement Tuesday with forward Matt Bonner, the last of the three free agents they hoped to re-sign, on a three-year contract worth about $9 million.
"Matt always wanted to stay with the Spurs, so he's very excited to be coming back," said Kenny Grant, Bonner's agent.
The Spurs also have reached agreements with center Fabricio Oberto (three years, $10.5 million) and Jacque Vaughn (two years, $2.5 million). Free agents can't sign contracts until July 11.
The agreements mean the Spurs will have 14 of the 15 members from last season's team under contract. Free-agent forward Melvin Ely is expected to sign with another team.
