even though we won the championship i think its gonna be hard to repeat if we dont pick some one up or bring over scola. i dont know about bonner..he did show some promise b4 he got hurt but ely and beno gots to go.....hell maybe even butler..i dont see anything special in him. damn just frustrated and needed to vent. hell with all the FA returning to there teams i dont know who else would help :pctoss :bang

I don't think they'll bring over Scola. But they'll probably continue to look to move Beno, Barry, Butler or anyone else that makes sense.
But don't expect anything major.

If the elder Spurs were lucky last season they won't be the next.
All i can say is maybe Butler is showing way more in practice then we know of. Elson gonna be much better his second year? He sure shows flashes and the Elson Haters can say what they want, the games he plays 20+ minutes they win. No it's not garbage time blowouts either. Stats like "shots altered" and "opposing guards decided not to drive since Spurs were not in small balls mode" are not recorded.
I am also not big on Bonner. I mean he seems okay, but NBA Champ winning playoff relatively large minutes? Naw. I hope we are wrong and he is able to assume this role. Oberto is fine as another forward or *center* vs smallball and slow teams. But lets face it, everything went right for the Spurs this year, Dallas getting eliminated, Phx with Poutamire getting himself tossed*. Browns Cavs playing an offensive strategy worse then 4 Dumb.
* no I'm not saying we would not have beaten Dallas and Phx had it come to that. As is the Spurs kicked their full squad ass in Gm 6.
But even with a 50-55 win season resting the geezers including Tim, if Horry Finley etc can flip the switch again and the Big 3 stay the same we can do this repeat.

Ely hasn't been re-signed and is looking for work. It's pretty obvious that R.C. plans to keep the team intact for one more season. I guess if the right deal presented itself, the Spurs would make a move to trade one the 14 guys under contract. Otherwise, Spurs fans will have to deal with the drama that is Slot 15 and whether Matt Bonner will get more minutes than Robert Horry.Quote:

There is no need for any asterisks, speculation or hand-wringing. The 2006-2007 Spurs were the best team in the playoffs. The results are just/correct... the best team in the playoffs won.

I don't think lucky gets you 57 wins or more in 7 consecutive seasons; I don't think lucky gets you to a point that over a stretch of 26 playoff series, only two franchises can say they've beaten you; and I don't think lucky is the thing that gets you to 3 titles in 5 years. But if others want to call it that, I'm cool with it. I'll be reminding myself of just how lucky we are when the 2007-08 season opens and we're watching the Spurs accept another round of championship rings and seeing another banner hung from the rafters.

I don't think the Spurs have to do much. My main concern is aging swing players. It seems likely that at least one of Bowen, Finley, and Barry will substantially decline in playing ability. Father time can sometimes be temporarily delayed, but never permanently avoided. Hopefully, White or Williams can provide some help, but I don't think that is too likely.
A decent 3rd PG would be my next concern. Spurs will probably find someone in the bargain basement, with all that implies. Also, if that is one of your biggest concerns, there can't be too many holes to fill.
A front line of Duncan, Oberto, Horry, Elson, Bonner, and Butler is pretty good. Elson and Bonner should play better in their second year and provide some insurance against the elder Horry. I don't see any reason to bring in Scola except as trade material.
Kudos to Kyleo! I don't want to put Fast Dunk into a suicidal funk but I was a kid when Reed/Clyde/Pearl/Debush/Senator/Jackson had their time in the Sun. 35 years later the Knicks are still nowhere in sight of winning it all. The Cavs may not see final's waters ever again even if James stays past his current contract. What the Spurs have accomplished in this decade of free agency and salary caps is extraordinary. Finally, calling Duncan old is rediculous. He will be 31 until the end of next season and likely has 4 more great seasons in him since he doesn't rely on rim hanging dunks to make a ESPN hi-light reel. By the way, why is the finals loser hosting the Espy's instead of someone on the championship team?

For the last time.....We were and still are better than the Suns. No luck needed. We beat them on their floor twice. Even w/o Amare and a no-factor in Diaw in game 5: We were down 16 and came back to win.
We beat Denver and Utah. Both of those teams would have beaten the Cavs. In fact, Cleveland would have struggled with any team in the West. We were nice enough and you were fortunate enough to be swept. No use in prolonging the agony.

I would be very surprised if Scola ever makes it to the NBA. I've never believed Scola would be the savior of the Spurs but could have been a nice backup for TD. Same with Jackie.
