I was very angry and frustrated.
It even got to the point, where I would tape playoff games...and only watch them if I knew the Spurs had won. I couldn't handle the defeats again, so I had to know before hand if they won, then I could truely enjoy the fuckups and stupid plays "well, I know we won, I can handle this..."
Then we started winning championships.
The first 2, I again was just watching playoffs, tape delayed. I couldn't bring myself to watch regular season games until after we won 2 championships. And then, I would only watch the games we won.
Last year, was really the first year since about 1995, that I actually watched regular season games...without a tape delay. I figured...ok, they might lose a few of these games, but they've won 3 championships now...they'll be there at the end. It's kinda like watching a game they played poorly in...but won. You can handle the regular season losses, if you know they're gonna have a chance of winning at the end.
And that's where I am now. Watching regular season games again, knowing that we might actually win in the end. The losses don't take me to the edge any longer. My dog will even hang around me till the end...even if the Spurs are down.
I think this is a problem unique to many of the Spurs fans from the 70's, 80's, and even 90's. The torture/depression/frustration of doing well in the regular seasons...and never doing well in the playoffs left scars. Scars that are just now healing. Post season depression was a way of life...and after awhile, you did everything you could do to avoid it. Mebbe just peeking around the corner every now and then, but never letting yourself get emotional involved.
It just hurt too damn much. We went through 20+ yrs of pain...and sometimes I still can't believe it ended.
But, it has...and I've finally accepted it. Getting mad at regular season losses during these glory days, is just silliness. People who lived through the Depression, had no job, and got their food from soup kitchens... could never understand people whining about a minimum wage job, or lack of health "insurance," when they didn't even have food on the table most days.
It's all a matter of perspective.
My name is SouthernFried...and I am getting better.
Thanks.
It's just a game. To compare it to soup kitchens and lack of insurance, or having food on the table, is taking it just a bit to far, don't you think? Whether they win or lose, in the end it's just a game. A bit too much drama on your part. This has got to be a first for Spurstalk.com. Sheesh!Quote:

If a team can be practicing new offensive sets during real regular season games and still win about 50% of them, it has a good shot at the championship.
I hate fans that give up on their team when things get difficult.
You're in the wrong place then...you'll find quite a few here you dont like.Quote:

the way i see it, the second others start doubting the spurs is when we will play our best.
Yeah, the Spurs live for that. Letting people think they won't get it done. Flying under the radar. In the end, they will be champs.Quote:

I may give up reading Sequ's threads. I've wasted 2 or 3 minutes reading all of them....minutes I'll never get back. It's sort of like expecting to get some sort of taste value out of eating rice cakes.
