That's the only thing they haven't tried. That and, of course, defense. :stirpot:
yes.
they should.
:lol
I think when don nelson was coach of the mavs they used to do that to duncan but I dont remember if duncan would make his free throws or not... anyone remember??
Duncan's FT% has been pretty good this season. I say go for it. :lol
His worst month, by far, was April, at 67%. His best was February at 81%. The rest of the year he's been between 70% and 78%. That's pretty good for him.
think about it. would you bet against 70% odds :rolleyes
then again dantoni would, he's a dumbass
Both teams should intentionally foul on every play and see what happens.
What does happen if a team runs out of players because everyone fouled out? Would we be looking at Pop vs. D'antoni one on one? Pop would school his ass.
Not so sure... D'antoni was a winner back in the italian days.

lol I actually tried this on NBA 2k8. Trying to foul out all my players to see what happens. It resulted in...everyone can foul out as long as there are still 5 players left. The last 5 players would stay in the game regardless of the number of fouls because they were the last ones left on the team...idk how that works in real life though..
Just in case I felt like taking this seriously, and to waste time at work, the answer, by the percentages is no.
This season Duncan is 73%FT and 49.7%FG. By those percentages, if you Hack-a-Tim, Tim scores 2 points 53.3% of the time, nearly 4% better than guarding him straight up.
Okay, that wasted enough time :D
please do
Those idiots over at azsportsfans think this is genius!
Do it.
73% FT shooter, DEEEEEEEEEEP Suns bench LMFFFAAOOO, and Shaq/Amare/whoever sitting on the side during the process. Idiots.
Please do it.
Please.
They don't want to get in foul trouble.

D'Antoni – a dual citizen of the United States and Italy – was an All-NBA Rookie Second Team choice in 1974 after the Kansas City-Omaha Kings selected him with the 20th pick in the 1973 NBA Draft. He played two-plus seasons for the Kings, where he was a roommate of former longtime NBA Head Coach Rick Adelman, before joining the ABA's Spirits of St. Louis and NBA's San Antonio Spurs.
After just two games with the Spurs in November 1976, D'Antoni moved to Italy where he played 13 seasons for Milan and became the club's all-time leading scorer. In 1978, he tried out for the Chicago Bulls, but opted to remain in Italy, where he stayed until he was lured by the Nuggets to return to the NBA in 1997. He was voted the league's top point guard of all time in 1990 and he paced his team to five Italian League titles, two Cups of Europe, two Cups of Italy, one Korac Cup and one Intercontinental Cup. He was also selected to play on the Italian national team for the European Championships in 1989 and was a part of the Milan team that competed in the inaugural McDonald's Open in 1987.
They should use the bench for something
It might be an interesting match up, Popovich and D'antoni.
I would not be sure of the outcome, but would LOVE to be a fly on the wall.
Here are some of the changes over the years.
At the start of the 1953-54 SEASON, Each player was limited to two fouls per quarter; if he committed a third, he would have to be removed for the remainder of that quarter. The number of fouls decreased to 51 per game, but late-game free-throw shooting contests remained the rule.
On April 23, 1954, NBA officials vote to limit each team to 6 personal fouls per quarter, after which each foul results in an opposition free throw.
1954-55 it also mandates the awarding of a penalty foul shot after a teams 5th personal foul in a period.
Don Otten's eight personal fouls in one game. The only way this can happen is for a team to be left with just five players after everyone has fouled out, which is not likely to happen anymore.
Jack Toomey, of the Baltimore Bullets, also had eight, in a playoff game on March 26, 1949. As a team, Baltimore commits a record 53 fouls. Eleven players foul out, including 6 Bullets.
Most personal fouls, game 8 - Don Otten, Tri-Cities at Sheboygan, November 24, 1949.
Alex Hannum, committed 7 fouls - Syracuse at Boston, December 26, 1950.
Cal Bowdler also committed 7 fouls on November 13, 1999, but that's another story.
In the NBA and WNBA, if a team is reduced to five players and one commits a sixth foul, that player must stay in the game; one additional free throw is awarded to the opposing team. Even if there are no free throws to be awarded because of an offensive foul, the one free throw will be added irrespective of offensive or defensive foul. A one-free throw penalty will also be awarded if said team has a player who must leave the game after being injured, and has no legal substitutes; the last player to foul out rejoins the game with the one free throw penalty. Thus, no team can be reduced to four players in those leagues.

Quote:
RULE NO. 3—PLAYERS, SUBSTITUTES AND COACHES
Section I—Team
a. Each team shall consist of five players. No team may be reduced to less than five
players. If a player in the game receives his sixth personal foul and all substitutes have
already been disqualified, said player shall remain in the game and shall be charged with a
personal and team foul. A technical foul also shall be assessed against his team. All subsequent
personal fouls, including offensive fouls, shall be treated similarly. All players who
have six or more personal fouls and remain in the game shall be treated similarly.

Good to know, thanks Rasho8!
Fun little history lesson.
I wouldn't be surprised to see "Hack a Bowen" to get him off Nash. I think it could be very effective in the 4th quarter.
I think that would work to the Suns advantage.
Hack a Bowen would make excellent sense to me. If the Spurs are forced to take out Bowen, it would work to the Suns advantage. Nash, Diaw and Barbosa usually have plenty of fouls left over at the end of a game.
I'd take my chances with Bowen at the line rather than Parker and Manu driving in for layups.
The Suns perimeter players would be wide open if Bowen was riding the pine.
Sure, Hack a Shaq sounds better but Hack a Bowen might be equally as effective.
Tim Duncan has been streaky at the line at times though.
Like if he misses one early he has a hard time finding his rythmn(at the line)the rest of the night it seems.
Who knows how Bowen will react under that kind of pressure?
