Nash as a replacement for Brent?
What do you guys think? After Brent retires, maybe Nash could step in a fill his 3pt shooter role. Then, the Spurs should be able to take Nash for a ride to the finals.

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
I've alwys thought that Nash'd be a great backup for the Spurs. When can he leave Phoenix?
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
If he can be had for vet min -in his twilight yrs, why not ?
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
he probably let the man he's guarding easily scored 20pts

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
He doesn't have what Barry brings to the table :stirpot:.

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
And how is that money going to work?

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
i am sure tim wont mind giving steve what amare and shaq could not have given him.

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
Nash is the purest point guard in the league. I've always loved his game and respected the man.
But, the guy is also one of the biggest defensive liabilities there ever was. I can't even imagine what his defense will look like in a couple more yrs.

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
Let's see how great of a defensive coach Pop is.
I'd say bring on board.
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
Nash doesn't work in this system, because Pop wants his PGs to be aggressive, look to score, and play defense. Hell, he wants Jacque Vaughn to be a score-first PG.
Nash is a great scorer, so he's capable of fitting in that regard....but it would be a considerable waste of his passing talent to try to fit him in the current system. And as you've seen with recent failed acquisitions (Shaq and J-Kidd), it is important that game-changing talents adjust to the system rather than the system adjusting to the talent.
It just wouldn't work.

Hopefully we'll have Mahinmi & Splitter to cover his a$$ in the lane by then, still led by Duncan ofcourse. This is so friggen funny, you guys reject the notion of having a 2 time MVP playing for your team, even just going off the bench as a veterant role player ? LOL

When he ends his contract with the Suns we'll sign him for the vet-min.
He would have the perfect age for us.

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
Spurs is a team on defense. Why would they want Nash, a person who can't even spell defense?

Nash is a better defender than Barry and Finley put together.

How can standing there and watching your opponent drive to the basket be better defense than what Barry and Finley do?

Being a great scorer Nash is would surely make him a great 2nd string PG. His passing skills is just gravy.

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
Pop would not put up with his matadore-d, and would bench his ass.

Nash can draw an offensive foul every once in a while.
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
where should I have to sign? I like Nash, whenever we got go small or run Steve would be great, not sure if it is reachable in term of money, but it is ok with me.

I'm sure he will be reachable in terms of rings.

Wouldn't an older, bench-player nash be similar to what Steve Kerr used to do with the Spurs (defense-wise)?

WRONG. At least they try. Nash makes no attempt to cover his man. If you ever want to see Steve Nash's defensive career in a nutshell, watch Q4 of Game 6 vs. Dallas 2003. Even Nellie was pissed off at him for continually leaving Kerr.
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
He would have to make more of an effort at d, if he wanted to see much time on the court.
:nope
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
He'll proboully stay in PHX for the rest of his career.

Thread raises an interesting and legitimate question: Is Nash good enough at defense that he could serve as Tony's back-up. Certainly, it would be Nash's best chance at a ring.
:lobt:
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
if you guys mean Nash at the end of his career, then sure..but Nash is way too good to come play a BACKUP role right now..
his defense wouldn't be a problem..we get away with Finley playing significant minutes, and he might be the worst perimeter defender in the NBA..
-
Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
You could basically sub Nash for Finley and you'd have about the same defense.
But not the same paycheck or offense.

Word. Why is this even a topic of discussion? Why are we looking at what our roster will look like for 2011-2012???

Re: Nash as a replacement for Brent?
idk about you all but
I'd take a Nash over a Vaughn anyday...

If Nash wants a ring, that might be a good move for him.
