Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs u
He played for Pop and he knows his system

Yeah...i think it would work out great
-
Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
he would be a threat to this team's chemistry...

I like averey as an asssistant coach. Pop could teach him how to win in the postseason and we could keep the team running strong when Pop retires.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. On the other hand, he could be good for the team.

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
Having AJ as an assistant wouldn't bother me. I'd love to see him back in SA. Although I think he's gonna look for an actual head coaching job.
-
Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
Avery is too much of a distraction. Too loud and controlling for the vets we have in SA.
Avery would be great for a really young team, or a good college coach. There are some damn fine college coaches and I think Avery's style would be well suited for that type of environment.

Avery will get a head coaching job somewhere else, pretty soon. If he wants to comeback to Spurs, however, sure!

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
I don't see why Avery, who was the coach of a winning team (as in winning record, not titles) to take an assistant job. I don't think the playoff failures are completely his fault.
-
Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
Mr. Duncan I do not think would like it. Also you think TP wants to listen to that man speak every game. I like AJ, and feel really bad for him, but he was just on the enemy's side.

He will wait for a HC job and get one quickly.

Hell no.
I wish Avery all the best in finding a new job, just PLEASE not here...
This Spurs system/team is VERY different from the late 90's Spurs teams...the only thing they have in common is a commitment to defense...but it's no longer "push your guy baseline and let Dave and Timmy handle them"...
Avery needs to go to a young rebuilding team so he can build the team he wants...not come into this veteran locker room flashing his ring from '99 and trying to fix something thats not broke.

Yeah probably coaching the Phoenix Suns as soon as DanFony gets fired.

It looks like he will be coaching the New York Knicks. It is being reported that they have offered the job to him.
Ironic, that he will coach this team, he being the one that hammered the last nail in the Knicks coffin, their last good team, with his championship clenching jumper.

I wonder if he'll tackle Malik in the showers for old time's sake?

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
I want AJ to stay the hell away from this team. They don't need him or the friction he brings. I'll never forgive that little jackass for the "Jesus hates the way you squander your God-given talent" remarks to DRob.

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
He needs to apologize first.. That is all. and don't give me the 1999 BS

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
Having AJ back on the Spurs Org is like going back to an Ex- who cheated on you...
It will never be the same again!

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
Sure he can be an assistant coach. Though I think he did a pretty good coaching job for his first few seasons. I'm sure he could get a head coach position somewhere though...there are a lot of open spots
-
Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
New York needs him more then we do

Avery would make a good assistant but I think he'll get hired as a head coach someplace else first.

Those of you who say no, do you have any reasons why you don't want AJ to be Pop's assistant? Or is it just hatred cause he was in Dallas?

While it would Redeem AJ for his Maverick sins.... I doubt that it would be good for the team.

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
I'm fine with him as an assistant coach. It's not like he is going to take over all of Popovich's job.
If Popovich thinks Avery can contribute something in the playoffs, then why not?

Re: Would you like to see Avery Johnson as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spu
AJ has a taste of coaching a high powered offense in the Dallas Mavericks. His insight would prove invaluable to the spurs. We haven't necessarily been known for our brilliant offense over the years, albeit we do have 4 championships to underscore the importance of defense in this league.

The amusing thing is that Pop would welcome him back yesterday. Funny how Spurs fans can be so off.

It would just seem funny if Popovich will hire him just for this playoffs. If Popovich surprised the Suns with the Hack-a-Shaq strategy, how about another tactic to use against the Hornets like using Avery's knowledge against the Hornets.
Ah, the side stories:
- Byron Scott seeing Avery again at the opposite end of the court, now with tools to counter his Hornets
- Cuban's look seeing another former Mav going to the Spurs
- CIA Pop again
- etc
Oh well, just crossed my mind...
