What the hell are you crying about now? For the series, the Lakers shot 161 free throw attempts, the Spurs 151. So that should basically tell you how the rest of the series went including the most one sided game I have ever witnessed (Game Four: Lakers 45fta, Spurs 26fta).
If you really look at the Lakers success against the Spurs, it's tied in with some crappy officiating and key injuries.
*2000 - Tim Duncan hurt. Lakers win the championship without playing the only team that was capable of beating them.
*2001 - Derek Anderson hurt. Being a small market team, we didn't have the depth other teams were able to carry. Starting Antonio Daniels shortened our bench plus DA was our second leading scorer that year. Maybe we don't win with a healthy DA but we will never know.
*2002 - David Robinson hurt. Admiral showed guts playing with that floating bone chip in his back but it wasn't enough to overcome Terry Porter at point guard.
*2004 - Derek Fisher's 0.52 shot. Fuck that, the clock started late.
I like the spurs every year...regardless of the situation...
You do remember the Hack A Shaq strategy and the intentional fouls the *purs employed to try and catch up in the 2003 series right?
I know you do. Right? So quoting the overall ft numbers for the series is not relevant.
I was at that game when the Lakers shot 45 ft's and agree they got the better end of the calls that day.
LOL
C'mon Spurs fans.
Man up.
He's running Laker smack and he's good at it.
The dude actually knows basketball when he's not running smack.
He knows that this current Lakers team sucks compared the the prime time Shaq/Kobe duo.
He knows that this series has been more about the Spurs beating themselves than the Lakers doing it...
You know that NBA commercial about the FEAR? Lanny's feeling it.
He KNOWS Spurs are gonna come out tonight and play 4 quarters of basketball and he's running smack while he can...
So what if Ghost has been saying this same thing for several years.
It is obvious that sooner or later, he's going to be right.
And I think he's right - right now.
The Spurs will continue to be a good team. Possibly even a lucky team, or on occasion, a very good team.
But championship great?
No, that time is rapidly passing. It could be possible this year, but - let's face it - the core of the team is Tim Duncan. He remains a great player now. Next year he will be almost great. The year after he will be very, very good. Then drop to very good.
So if it is true that Ghost has been saying this for a long time - and how would I know? - it is sort of like Tim Duncan's free throws. Just because he bricks several in a row doesn't mean the next one won't go right in.
Guys calm down about this being the Spurs last chance. The big 3 will be back and we are one good free agent or draft class from being right back on top.
ESPN just had a round table of best era's of the past 30 years. Threepeat Lakers beat Duncan Spurs every time. They might have been consistant for longer, but overall greatness Shaq & Kobe Lakers got you every time. Shoot, in our last match-up when you guys were in your prime and we were falling apart we still got the better of ya.
And no, Spurs won't collapse like the Lakers next year. Rather, they become what the Rockets and Suns were the past several years in comparison to the Jazz, Hornets, and Lakers. Great teams, just never great enough to win a championship. We've already seen the beginnings of the implosion of 2 of the 3 previous powerhouses (Suns and Mavericks), Spurs will come soon after, maybe two or three years.
“The cats are flopping all over the floor and they’re calling that,” Wallace said. “That ain’t basketball out there. It’s all entertainment. You all should know that.”
I like the Spurs offense. Don't fall in love with the 3.
I never understood the arbitrary "in 9 years". Lakers have 14 in 60 years, what does that matter? If you want to give your spurs era extra points for having less drama and being around longer because of it, fine, but as far as shaq-kobe era vs duncan spurs era goes, it's gonna be shaq-kobe. A 3-peat is more impressive then 4 in 9 and even 3 in 5. Winning 3 back to backs is rare, having an era of championships is not.
fucking faggot shit!
Nice to see that I woke some of the old timers like timvp and Holt's Cat up.
Even when logic dictates otherwise, I never give up on the Spurs and always hope for the best.
And when the team looked like sh1t on paper to me, they have surprised me before.
I'd rather be a cranky realistic than a blind optimist.
Having said that, while you guys are calling it a season, I really believ that the Spurs are better than these Lakers and can come back.
So "Fvck this" and "Fvck you" while we at it.
We.
Are.
Winning.
