memphis wanted as much salary off the books as possible, as quickly as possible, to help sell the team. they didn't need to "shop" gasol--there was no better expiring contract than kwame's.
the funny thing about kwame is that the spurs are like the one team in the league that he matches up well against. ask duncan if he'd rather go against kwame or gasol. lakers would have rolled with or without gasol. it's tough to admit, but it's the truth.
The Lakers wouldn't have played the Spurs without Gasol.
Spurs would have lost just as hard if the Lakers had Bynum instead of Gasol

lakers wouldn't have had the one seed without gasol, i'll give you that. they might have struggled to get into the playoffs. but they still would have beaten the spurs. duncan would have had a lot more trouble with kwame than he did with gasol.
Whatever all i know is w/ a healthy Bynum and the laker squad next year, its over for the nba. real talk! :ihit
