Ok, so I was having a discusion at work w/ a co-worker. He was born and raised in LA, and has been here in Madison for 2 years cuz his wife is going to the University of Wisconsin. Needless to say, he is a HUGE Laker fan (and for now also a Heat fan). He absolutly HATES the Spurs, he hates every player on the Spurs (except for Horry). He HATES Tim Duncan with a passion!

Last night was the first time I saw him since after game 6. He was adament that Tim Duncan was NOT the MVP. He even went as far as to say that both Horry and Manu had said during interviews that they both felt they should have won the MVP themselves instead of Tim Duncan. Personally, I think he is full of crap. But did Horry and Ginobili say this? Does anyone have any links to any places with quotes about the Finals MVP? Id like to print out the quotes (if he is wrong) and show him. Thanks for your help.

BTW, this guy still give me crap about 0.4.

Manu: "OK, now it is time to talk about "Mr. 21" Tim Duncan, who was fantastic. Pop (Gregg Popovich, the head coach) had told us that the key was for Tim to take at least 25 shots. And he not only did that, he also grabbed a boatload of rebounds (11) and when they doubled him in the paint, he kicked it out to Bowen or me. He was very aggressive and the MVP was deserved (prize to the most valuable player)."

Thats what I told him. I told him that I read all the quotes online but he said "Horry said in a LA news article that he should have been the MVP, and that if he did win it, he would have retired." He also said that "Manu said in an Argentine news paper that he should have won the MVP."

I think its BS. Anyone have the exact quotes from these players after the Finals?

In fact Manu said Tim deserved it.

OK, now it is time to talk about "Mr. He was very aggressive and the MVP was deserved (prize to the most valuable player). They commented to me that people were calling my name in the arena, but I did not listen to it, the crowd noise was very high and I was very focused on what I was doing. The only thing I wanted was that the game finish as soon as possible. In addition, there are so many specialists watching, who study this and know there are no doubts that if they chose Tim it is because he deserved it. It was enough that I saw that prize next to Tim.
Just because I have made an important three-pointer at the end or some free throws, does not mean that I have won the game. The guy who opened the lane with his game was Duncan. There are no doubts that he was the best player. I feel proud that they have considered me to win that award. But it is also clear that he didn't win the ring by himself; the le we obtained because we have a great team that plays without ego, with a great defense, and always had a common objective. We won the last game because we finished the game better. We had five final minutes that were very sweet.

No way either of the msaid that. There are some people on this board who live and breath the Spurs. Probably spy on hte spur players and read every single word written about them. If either of them said that, it would have made onto this board with lightening speed.

Exactly! But he wasnt hearing it. Itll be good to have some do entation to back it up.

He'll think of something to say about it. He always does. He even went as far as to say that a healthy Shaq would have put up 35 and 15 in a game 7 of the NBA Finals against a team as good as Detroit.

Pretty sad what Laker fans now have to resort to to justify getting up in the mornings . . .

I have a feeling he is upset that:

    a. Shaq is "gone"

    b. Tim Duncan has just as much Rings and Finals MVPs as Shaq.

I cant wait till Tim Duncan gets another ring. I will rub it in his face harder then he rubbed Derek Fisher in my face. Man I hated goint to work after 2003 WCSF's.

dre, the worst thing horry ever said about tim in the finals was after game 5. someone asked him if he liked being called "big shot bobby" because tim calls him that... he said "forget tim... he should make his freethrows." (he was joking with the media)

you can tell your friend he used to say the same things about shaq... when shaq was with the lakers and not in miami...

Here you go, Dre7, this is from today:

"About the MVP, they commented a lot about that here and that's understandable," said Ginobili, looking relaxed in a T-shirt as he was mobbed by local journalists at a Buenos Aires hotel.

Speaking in Spanish, he added, "I believe Tim was the rightful winner ... we both now have the ring and I just feel enormous satisfaction for what we've just lived through."

When a journalist asked Manu about Tim winning the MVP instead of him, he said something like this :

"Tim absolutely deserves it. I would have loved to win it, but I would have felt my self even happier sharing it with him than winning it only me."

    sorry for the mistakes!

In one interview, Horry was asked if he was going to retire since he won another championship and he said no, he feels he has another couple years left in him. However, if he'd been named MVP, then he would have retired.

That's about as close as Horry came to saying it and he was only joking. He said multiple times in other interviews that Tim is the MVP.

if Manu or Horry won the MVP, a expect a lot MORE protesting the award & desputing it.

hey! the ratio of Duncan over Manu getting that award is higher.

    you just can't please everybody!
