Andrew Bynum will be asking the Lakers for the maximum when contract negotiations get underway with the Lakers this summer.
Bynum's agent, David Lee, said Wednesday they will be seeking a 5-year, $80 million extension, although the Lakers might wait until training camp before opening talks. Their offer could depend on Bynum's knee.
"We have had some ongoing conversations with the Lakers," Lee said. "They know what we are looking for let's just leave it at that."
Lee wouldn't go into details, but didn't think Bynum's health would be a hindrance. He said his client wants to remain with the Lakers.
The 7-foot center missed the final 46 regular-season games after he suffered a knee injury, which required arthroscopic surgery May 21 to remove cartilage debris and smooth a few rough patches underneath.
Bynum previously said he would be ready to start workouts in July and in shape when training camp opens in October.
The Lakers are counting heavily upon Bynum's return to the lineup, especially his bulky presence inside. He averaged career highs in points (13.1) and rebounds (10.2) last season, but has played in just 163 games since being drafted in 2005.
