Person of interest: Danny Green

With exactly one week to go before the NBA draft, we continue our look at potential Spurs targets by examining North Carolina small forward Danny Green.
For about the past several seasons, the Spurs have been on the lookout for "the next Bruce Bowen" -- a rangy defensive player who can hit a shot every now and then, but for whom offense is clearly secondary.
It would be silly to compare Green to Bowen at this stage -- Bowen is an eight-time All-NBA defender, Green is a 22-year-old who has never played in a professional game. But, on paper, Green at least possesses some attributes that make him an intriguing prospect for the "Bowen-in-waiting" role.
Green is 6-foot-6 with a 6-10 wingspan, and was renowned in college as a particularly good all-around defender. He isn't overwhelmingly athletic, and doesn't possess much of a one-on-one offensive game, but he has worked hard to refine his shooting mechanics and can hit a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer with some regularity (sound familiar?). Green averaged 13.1 points as a senior at UNC, and hit at a 41-percent clip from 3-point range.
The best part for the Spurs is that Green ought to be available when they are picking in the second round. Though his NBA ceiling is limited, Green could turn out to be a valuable NBA role player some day. That is all you're shooting for at pick No. 37.
I'm originally from North Carolina and have seen Danny Green play probably 50 games.
Believe me, Danny Green is horrible.
Not everyone reads ST, so if he has spoken with someone about Danny Green inside the organization, it is not bad to give a few tidbits for his readers.
I can't imagine us picking anyone the E-N writes about. If they write about a player, then all that means is we're not getting that player.

It'd be nice if the Spurs could manage somehow to get into the middle of the 1st round, yet still retain this early 2nd round pick.
Yeah and they'll send these guys overseas and the next time you see them they'll be in another uniform. Great. Thanks to tim the spurs have rings. Otherwise forget about it. Its getting nauseating with this overseas non sense.
So the Spurs could draft a player who could some day become a role player, the next Bowen.
That way they could reap the same benefits as the first NBA team that Bowen played for.
When they talk about wingspans, doesn't everyone have a wingspan about the length of their height? I guess, with the exception of some people give or take a few inches. The longest I've seen in person is Elton Brand but I'm sure there are other freakish types out there.
i dont believe in the nba ceiling is limited to any player thats in the draft, it depends on what team they are drafted and the resources in place and system.
look at the young players in the league now who are high volume shooters, give them alot of the ball and improve their game, then they can go concentrate on other areas of their game over the years....
