Last year, with Avery Johnson, they would have easily beat the Spurs. Maybe had trouble with Phoenix, judging by AJ's history with fast break teams. They would have beat them in 6. Lakers and Celtics would have been grinded out.
Could Avery, given a full off-season and reg season in 09 be able to take the Mavs back to the playoffs and beat out the Celtics? Beating the Hornets, Spurs and Lakers? I think with Avery-yes.

Even though this is low grade trolling, I'll answer the question. Considering the entire team had tuned him out and most of the players couldn't stand him, none. I will say I was wrong in thinking he was holding Kidd back by making him a spot up shooter in the half court, that's really Kidd's best half court skill at this point in his career tbh.
Avery was the coach when the Hornets beat Dallas. He got fired after the series. Last year, I don't think Dallas had enough talent to beat Denver. This past season a better coach might have taken Dallas to the WCF. Carlisle really dropped the ball against the Spurs.

I think blaming avery johnson for their lack of play was bs. the warriors loss isn't really their fault. that was their only problem that year. had they been matched up with anyone else, they would have gotten the championship. Except the spurs cuz i'm a fan first.
