Italy subs and extends extra time and as soon as the sub comes in US scores. They should have just let time expire and enjoyed their 0-0 draw in the first leg.

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Italy

just checking... what did I miss that is giving the US so much pleasure in beating a team 1-0 on a last second fluky goal that they should have beat 3-0 on the road?

What was fluky about the goal other than when it occurred? If that occurs in the 32nd minute is it "fluky"?

And the US isn't supposed to be happy it won?

Okay, so not so much fluky... but I think there is a big difference between being happy about winning, LOL'ing (totally different than happy about winning), and what I would think would be the more likely emotion - being relieved to leave with a victory at all. Am I totally off base in saying this is like the Spurs going to Golden State or Indiana, winning a tight game and LOL'ing it to the bank? It's not as if the Italian WNT has ever done much in the 20 years women's soccer has been significant... was just wondering what I missed to make it such a big deal...

You missed the fact that it was a team from ITALY. What could make it bigger?

If the team was relevant in the last 20 years...? Maybe that?

It's not like this was a team that's been on the USWNT level... ever. That'd be similar to us talking a big game when we beat the Mexican national basketball team... because they're our rival in soccer.

That was my whole point... am I missing a rivalry in US/Italy womens soccer that I'm not aware of?... apparently I wasn't

All of that said, congrats to the team for the next step to qualification... it's a shame one loss knocked them out of the original bid... but at least they're still moving in the right direction

I was... the Italian MNT is a bunch of pansies, they choked away the '10 WC (similar to us in 06)... we all hate the Italians... blah blah blah...

I just don't transfer it to the women's team. Sorry.
