    Player A:

    25/5/1 on 43% shooting, 30% from the 3, .540 TS%

    Player B:

    20/5/2 on 47% shooting, 40% from the 3, .630 TS%

Player B's team is the best in the league at the moment

I'd go with player A, but not by much. How bout you?

Again, just "hypothetically," Player A just happens to rank #1 among all shooting guards in the league with a PER of 24.57

Player B, ranks second among all shooting guards with a PER of 23.45

And Player A's hypothetical true shooting percentage is .546 - not .540, just to be hypothetically fair.

Sorry, that's not the player in my scenario. Don't change the scenario here...make your own topic.

    Player A easily.

It doesn't seem like a huge difference, but I think there is between a 25 points scorer and a 20 point scorer. It's rare for any solid NBA player to be able to get up to 25 PPG. That's reserved for the elite scorers in the league. The Kobes and LeBrons and Wades and Durants and Dirks. But 20 points scorers, in recent years you have guys like Jamal Crawford, Corey Maggette, Al Harrington, and Ben Gordon able to average 20 PPG. I would imagine that the 25 point scorer has much more star power and is a much better scorer even if he's not as efficient with his FG%.

    Ok, how about this scenario?

19/6rpg/6 apg on 46% shooting, 37% three pointers

    or

    22/6 rpg/3 apg on 46% shooting, 40% 3 pointers

Why would you want Player A? Player B is shooting at a much better percentage. Player A is probably just jacking up more shots than Player B.

Exactly, player A is shooting 5 more shots a game in this situation...

    Hypothetically, with player A having shooting nights like 8-20, 9-22, 3-11, 12-28, 11-32, 10-23, and 8-27 I'd say you are hypothetically right.

To be fair, player A's hypothetical star power gets him to the line quite a bit and so points per possession is not nearly as poor as the FGM-FGA stats might indicate.

    hypothetical star power
I love this phrase and plan to use it in the future. Thank you.

Add yes, I assumed the OP was cherry-picking some stats.

Because if you dwell too much on FG%, then for example, you'd take Michael Beasley over Kevin Durant. And you don't want to do that.

True enough; stats only tell part of the story.
