After tonights choke-o-rama, and subsequent bail-out, he shouldn't get it despite the stats. Manu. Horry. Whoever else, but you can not deny Duncan screwed the pooch.

The MVP usually goes to the winning team. And since the series isn't over, we don't even know if a Spurs player is going to get it.
And if Tim hits all his free throws in the next two games and averages 40 and 20, I think you'll change your mind.
Bad take.
Duncan still had 26 and 18, wtf?? sure he was'nt most valuable in the 4th but he dominated the rest of the game.
But it IS still a of a decision to make, horry, manu, duncan, bowen... all legitimate candidates, who knows, Parker could have a phenomenal game in another win and validate himself as well.... Then you'd HAVE to give it to Duncan, only because his stats were the most constant
you do realize that manu shot 33% and missed a couple key shots
duncan and manu both missed key shots
Relax Tobias, Duncan Always Has Big Free Throw Nights, It Should Not Cost Him An Finals Mvp He Did Have 26 And 19
Timmy had 26 points and 19 rebounds, despite his missed tip, I think he played great. Without his good play, the team would've played uninspired. Timmy Duncan is still the man.
Despite a poor showing in the 4th, he still ended up with a solid game.
Bowen continues to rise on the list, IMO. He shut Rip down again, and had several key defensive stands against Billups. When you consider the surprising level of offensive contributions, he's definitely worth consideration.
But I agree that whoever has the best game in the clincher (knock on wood) will probably get it, since there are several players in close compe ion.
"missed tip" my ass, that was just the start of his craptacular showcase towards the end.
It's not that Duncan didn't do a great job, but when it was crunch time, he didn't get the job done. I'm not saying Duncan stank - far, far from it. But we would probably never have had to go into OT if he had made his FTs and he had sunk that put-back. , if he had just made his FTs it would have been enough.
Would the Spurs have had a chance of winning without Duncan's 29 points? No! Without his 12 rebounds? No! But somehow we want a complete game from him - the clutch points when the game is on the line.
Aren't we fickle? Yes! But he could have prevented a number of ulcers by making the foul shots, n'est ce pas?![]()
The MVP will come down to who plays well in the clinching game, whether its 6 or 7 (hopefully 6).
Honestly, nobody has had a consistently great series. Manu had 2 great games, 2 terrible games, and this one was avarege. While I think that Tim has been better in the last finals, his numbers are way more consistent then anybody else's. And despite the poor performance, he was the foundation for the team and put up excellent numbers.
We shouldsn't be talking about MVP right now cause we need one more game. I was analizing the series as a whole, not who deserved the MVP.
Manu did have 9asts and 2tos. About 4-5 of Manus shots were basically the end of shot clock and end of quarters. Not suprising he didn't shoot well. But he did find the open man throughout, and helped set the tone early.
It was an OK game from Manu, where everyone else save for Duncan's STATS, and of course Horry -- was horrible.
And Robert sucked ass most of the game. 18 pts in the 4th and OT!?? Ridiculous!![]()
When will people realize, it's not all on Tim's shoulders, Manu's shoulders, or anyone's shoulders. Spurs are a TEAM first and foremost - that's why we won tonight, and that's why we'll win this series.
If we don't play as a team, we will lose, no matter individual effort.
Tim's a great man. Whenever he has problems, they usually have to do with what's in his head, not what he can do on court or his skill. Hopefully, he'll "psych himself" the right way from here on out.
The Finals MVP means little as far as the le is concerned. It's an example of team's interest over individual's.
Yeah, at this point, I don't think TD or Manu or Billups or Big Ben are thinking about the MVP. They just want to win the thing.
I wanted TD to win MVP. But for the 2nd year in a row, I think no one person truly deserves it. It's been two teams.
tim was shook. it was a sad display and completely unexcusable. how can you be the team leader, the best player on your team and just completely fold like that?
Duncan must not win the MVP finals...he may have a 20 points + 10 rebounds, but if he cant hit hey shots like those FTs, catch the ball in the final minutes or dunk a missing layup...sorry!
Horry saved our asses tonight, i loved his energy and his superdunk, but it's just one game.
Manu had a very complete game, except in FG %....it totally sucked.
Parker MVP? Out of the question, this guy should be trated inmediately. He can't be a PG. Even Pop realizes it and takes him out. Stop the 23 year old bull .
Who should win the mvp? Right now, none of the spurs have been a dominant factor against the pistons
