    Tony Parker's MVP Season
    By: Michael Scotto
    Feb 12, 2013 1:57 PM EST

Tony Parker received was a talented but sometimes maligned player at the start of his career with the San Antonio Spurs, particularly with their pursuit of Jason Kidd. As the Kidd pursuit disappeared, Parker helped the Spurs again win les in 2005 and 2007 and has fully earned Gregg Popovich’s trust and praise more than ever this season.

With the loss of Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili to injuries, Parker has shouldered much of the offensive load for the Spurs. Parker leads the Spurs in points (20.7), assists (7.7) and minutes (32.9).

“Fortunately, Tony Parker has been playing beyond an All-Star level,” said Popovich. “He’s been unbelievable carrying the burden.”

Playing beyond an All-Star level implies that Parker has ascended to an All-NBA and MVP level. When asked to clarify his remarks, Popovich gave Parker his highest compliment.

“I think he should be in every conversation for any award that’s going to be given,” said Popovich referring to Parker’s All-NBA and MVP candidacy. “I don’t think that it’s very tough to see. I mean you know there’s a group of guys, but he should be in that group as one of the guys that’s playing the best in the league.”

Parker has displayed MVP-caliber stretches for the past few seasons, but this year it's undeniable. He has lead this team to the best record in the league essentially with role players. Our role players collectively are much more talented than other teams, but you can guarantee Parker is the reason they play so well together. He's been an MVP in every way, but sadly there are at least 3 others that are even more important to their team (LBJ, KD and CP3). I hope Parker gets an all-NBA nod, it'd be a shame if he didn't get recognition for what he's doing right now.

WE should all know the Nba is all about KD,LBJ,CP3,Griffin and Kobe.
Parker will not win MVP due to mainstream media hyping up those players 24/7.

The only player who is absolutely better than TP this year is LeBron, and he's having a season for the ages. If All NBA teams were on merit, Tony would be first team. Since it's a popularity contest, he'll probably come in on the third team.

First team guards should be Parker and Paul IMO but will probably be Paul and Kobe.

He was 2nd team last year, I don't see how he could get less than that this year. The thing is, Kobe and Paul would get more votes than Tony in any kind of award compe ion even if they didn't play one game during the year.

Kobe's going to get all-defense and will probably get votes for DPOY as well. Do we really need further proof that voters are stupid?

Lack of consideration for major awards is the price our players pay for being in a small market. Neither the NBA panjandrums nor the TV execs want the Spurs or individual players to outperform the big market players or teams. It's all about money and publicity. We have to win the championship for Parket to be recognized as league MVP.

As far as first team all-NBA, it is easy for folks to overlook Parker when there ARE excellent guards in the discussion like Kobe, Rondo and Paul in major markets.

    1) Lebron James
    2) Kevin Durant
    3) Tony Parker !!!!
    4) Carmelo Anthony
    5) Chris Paul

While everyone marvels at the individual work of LeBron and Durant, Parker has quietly led the Spurs to a staggering and league-best 42-12 record. If he keeps this up after All-Star weekend, Durant needs to start looking over his shoulder.
