For anyone interested, the Sloan Sports Analytics conference is currently in session, and R. C. Buford is there. He's speaking on a panel with some other GMs/Coaches right now, and saying some interesting (and also some vague) things about the Spurs approach to analytics. There are several people livetweeting the panels. The hashtag is #ssac13.

Just based on Twitter, it appears he said nothing on the Basketball Analytics panel. No giving away of information.

Yeah. He talked mostly about the need for a team to have people who can translate advanced ideas into things the players can act on. He also spoke a little bit about assessment of defense. He was paraphrased as saying something like, "don't analyze defense on the individual player level, analyze it breakdown by breakdown."

And apparently Stan Van Gundy said something on the panel like, "The Spurs aren't lucky, they've got it figured out." To which Buford declined to comment.

I feel like they should've invited Kawhi to the panel. All he does is shoot corner threes and drive, seems like a perfect analytics player. Of course it would've gone something like:

"Kawhi, when we looks at your shot selection, you seem to be every analytic-heavy GM's dream come true. Do you look at analytic stats with the Spurs' front office and integrate it into your game?"

"Not really, you know, just trying to get better, improve my craft, you know, do what's best for the team......"
