Na start Manu and Tiago and iso them every time. They'll never expect it.
That 1-3 pnr that he ran w/ Paul and Barnes "forced" TP to switch back onto Paul, who would then go on to torch him. That was a huge reason why Paul had such a dominant game.
Game 5 adjustments (imo):
1) STOP SWITCHING THAT 1-3 PNR!!!: This was a horrible strategy that made no sense on any level. Can't believe it wasn't addressed after halftime.
2) Start Boris: Tiago is worthless out there. We should probably also play more smallball with Leonard at the 4 (while Griffin is on the bench)
3) More Kawhi in the high post or working the high-post pnr w/ Timmy or Boris: Kawhi has been most effective in isos and working off screens, catching, and attacking. Can't ask him to create around the 3 point line. That's not his game. Unfortunately I don't see us doing this, because for some reason we're more content to have Tony dribble out the clock trying to find a shooter.
4) More High post pnr w/ Timmy and Boris: Griffin can't guard Timmy if they switch, and both guys are excellent passers. This play has worked almost every time we've tried it, so why not use it until they stop us.
5) For the love of all that is holy, please someone pumpfake Jordan: We saw Kawhi be successful with this on a few drives, but nobody else seems to understand that Jordan is a poor positional defender who gets by off of athleticism and elite shot-block timing ala Ibaka. Timmy especially doesn't seem to understand.
Na start Manu and Tiago and iso them every time. They'll never expect it.
Nah we like to pumpfake and go for the reverse layup.![]()
Mills getting destroyed by Rivers was the biggest adjustment
^ Usually mills is a pest on defense, he was but rivers and paul just shot over him
I agree with the 1/3 switches, doc did a great job making adjustments, Pops gotta counter next game
He will. He'll start Bonner at 4.
Showing up to Game 5 would be a good start, tbh
Excellent post. Completely agree with 1, 3, 4 and 5.
2) Can't happen, unless Bonner is inserted into the rotation. I know he kind of, sort of has been, but I mean for a legit 10-15 minutes. Diaw doesn't have the legs to play the 40+ that Griffin will from here on out, baring foul trouble and if they go small, then Belinelli or Ginobili is going to have to defend Davis (obviously, this would be an impossible block out for them), because they can't afford to waste Leonard or Green on him.
Blame Splitter, who can't play even respectably unless he's 100% and who has zero stamina. An ancient Duncan and old Diaw are having to log obscene minutes because of him and the lack of a competent fourth big. Baynes was a nice regular season story, but he's low IQ and doesn't excel at any particular thing.
We will not get the whistles in Game 5, be aware of that.
Ironically, I think our guys showed up physically, but not mentally. Today's Spurs looked a lot like the Spurs from December. Play hard, but play dumb and find ways to lose games that you shouldn't be losing. We missed far too many FTs, made dumb foul after dumb foul in that 3rd quarter after taking a lead, then proceeded to do the same thing in the 4th with Tony's blown FTs, Timmy's missed bunny, Kawhi's forced long 2 (after he admittedly single-handedly brought us back), and Danny's inexplicably stupid foul on Paul 40 ft from the basket.
We honestly could have had our own "not-so-top 10" tonight. It was pathetic. So hopefully, yes, the mental edge returns for game 5 like we had in 2 and 3, but this team has been so maddeningly inconsistent all year that I honestly don't know which version will show up for game 5.
It's been a roller-coaster of a season, tbh... first with the injuries, then the criminal schedule, then it looked like we would never get it together, then we did, now sometimes we do, sometimes we don't.
At this point, whatever we get, we get. Enjoy watching Tim and Gino in their last few rodeos and hope for the best.
Makes plenty of sense imo, Even he if only plays the first 6 minutes of each half.
Clips aren't respecting Diaw as a floor spacer (he's 0-9 from 3). Parker showed signs of life in game 4 attacking the rim. I'd have Duncan setting high screen and rolls with Parker with Bonner spotting up in the right corner pulling Griffin away from the basket.
We got 25 last game in L.A. Spurs need to hit their FTs and not worry about the whistles. 25 of 35 in game 4![]()
Wow what a refreshing thread. Finally somebody talking actual basketball. Thank you TDFan2007
I'm on board with you, mentality-wise. Win or lose, it's been an honor.
Everyone was falling to their knees, mouth agape, ready to fellate Splitter after Game 3 for making Griffin his personal little and after one bad game everyone is ready to bench him. Spurstalk at its finest.
Got to also stop those switches where Duncan ends up on Paul. Duncan is too slow on blocking those stepbacks. Paul's mid range jumpers are easy money if he gets any room.
Parker the bed in game 2 and sat out the rest of the game with a phantom injury. Might be in the team's best interest if he does that again. We always seem to pull together as a team in those difficult away games when Parker's not on the court hogging the ball(OKC game 6, LAC game 2)
Tiago is like god here, stupids will never adjust
