I don't know. I'm all for a significant reduction in the role of government, BUT, in the event of a natural disaster, I expect the government to step up and own the situation.
It's certainly a service I'd willingly pay taxes for without any hesitation.

Those people, are gonna have to depend on local, state, and federal. And also depend on good samaritans.

bottom line, evacuating 100s of thousands of people takes a looooong ing time... get the out BEFORE!
i had a friend down there.. her and her bf hitchhiked out of NO several days before the chaos started.

Back to the original subject, the MORAL of this story is we live in world with leaders who ponder the skin on their ass before making decisions.
