Look at what he is doing with all of these injuries the team is getting. They continue to win. The team defense this year has been much better and that is without the best defensive players out for extended periods of time. He is winning with D-Leagur all stars. Maybe he is growing as a coach and not the worst among the playoff teams anymore. Plus the players like him. McFail is a nice meme, but could be outdated soon imo.

no. They added Ariza, got rid of Lin, and hired a defensive minded assistant TR Dunn. Knee-jerk reaction needs to stop.

Is he becoming a good coach? Maybe it was the players he was given like Lin and Parsons. Young talent develops under him and now he has them executing down the stretch in games. They would have lost a couple of these close games last year. I think he will surprise in the playoffs. Bump this thread when it happens.

Not sure if its knee jerk. There are so many injuries on the team yet they are 16-4. If they were completely healthy, or only had a couple of injuries, then maybe it would be a knee jerk reaction.

Guys are stepping up. Motiejunas is FINALLY being used in the post due to Jones being out. Kostas has been a surprise, so has Terry and now Nick Johnson. Defense is the calling card this season, but the playoffs are where he will be judged, and the entire staff was hyperventilating last year against Portland.

Pretty sure the defensive improvement is thanks to TR Dunn, adding Ariza, and trading Lin. D-mo finally getting it after 2 years is probably in spite of Mchale. If anything it should have happened last year.

The rockets still have trouble running plays to inbound the ball at times.

How can DMo getting it be in spite of McHale, when he has a history of developing young talent under him? Dmo just finally gained confidence on the offensive end and gets respect from the refs now/doesn't commit dumb fouls. Dunn was big, but the players given to McHale probably hurt what he was trying to do also. Getting rid of Parsons was good for defense too because i never saw him fight for rebounds like Ariza and Papa have.

Maybe, we'll see what type of offense the Rockets run in the playoffs, tbh..it was painful to watch their offensive style vs. Portland last year..

Morey deserves a ton of credit, though, as I said during the off-season..it should have been obvious to anybody that watches basketball that Ariza is a better player than Parsons, and that losing Lin was addition by subtraction..I still don't like Houston's bench, but Jones being out has been great for developing Montejunas, of course..I don't really trust their other bench players, though(which isn't a huge deal, as Houston's starting lineup will probably play huge minutes in the playoffs, and they are one of the best starting 5s in the L)..

I still can't believe so many morons(the usual, vanilla NBA fans) actually predicted the Rockets would miss the playoffs..because they lost overrated, soft players like Parsons and Lin..

Doubtful but smart to turn the defense over to Dunn who I saw when I was a kid dude was a really, really good defender. Glad he is a great defensive assistant. Ariza over Parsons and TBev over Lin are huge adjustments tbh ...

McFail is underrated. Harden and Pedowight are just chokers and mental midgets who can't be counted on in the playoffs.

coaching shows itself during the playoffs where you actually extensively gameplan and make adjustments. thats why the Del Negro Clippers always looked great in the regular season too

This though, even here in ST some called them to miss the playoffs. When you have two top 10 players today you automatically get in the playoffs.
