He's the kind of guy that always bites us in the ass from other teams in the playoffs. It's not specific to Simms, we've had others. It's the fact that Pop doesn't allow the younger variables to be taken into account unless there's absolutely no other option.
Pop lives on percentages, history and plus-minus. Limits the Spurs' ceiling in the hopes of reaching, in his mind, the best-case (percentage-based) scenario.

Simms, Bertans and, to a lesser degree, Murray, haven't played enough to contribute in the playoffs the way they could've.
I would gladly have taken 5-10 less regular-season wins to have more upside in the playoffs.

You could easily match Bertans with Ryan Anderson on both ends of the floor. He'd give you shooting and floor spacing... but no. We get David Lee.
Bertans may look like Bonner 2.0 there if pop allow him to play..

He seems careful to not let his guys try and fail. That is, he is willing to take a loss where he might have had a win and be the fall guy, the one to blame for the loss, rather than chance having his guys 'break' mentally by not achieving what they set out to.
I'm likely wrong, or off, because it doesn't make too much sense especially in veteran laden San Antonio... but it seems to happen a lot. Weird to me.
