71FL/66SFMR, 992.2 extrapolated, though the last pass was 994, which matched the dropsonde. Also, they are flying at 925mb, quite low. Hurricane Katia?
The NHC got lazy after '05 and took Katrina's name, removed a couple letters and made up a name.
But fortunately this one is going into Mexico.
Probably would have made more sense if this one was Jose and the one in the Central Atlantic coming towards the US (Jose) was Katia, but whatever. This isn't 2005, it's just a wicked cousin to 2004 and the first of "these" type of hurricane seasons since the Bush administration... but every year is different.

Hurricane Katia, as I anticipated. NHC didn't expect it, but it's the Great Hurricane Season of 2017, so you just know it would happen.
