Bruce is the POSTER CHILD for the Spurs defensive system. He IS the Spurs defensive system.
Last night Charles again called the Martix the most underrated player in the game. As a Spurs fan I thought this amusing knowing how much Bruce owned the Matrix in last years WCF, yet got little national recognition.
Recent comments from Pippen caused me some rage and a lot of laughs. Scottie said Bruce is only an average defender who takes advantage of the Spurs defensive system. Psst Scottie, any player with a ring must have learned how to play at a high level within a system, or they would have no rings.
After Bruce shut down Bosh, an Allstar PF in the last game, I thought he might need a little love for the rash he will be giving to Carter tonight. Especially with the little national recognition he has been getting for his great defense all year, and for his snub from the three point shooting Allstar Weekend.

If you take Bruce out of the equation I'm guessing we lose about 40% of our defensive effectiveness.

It is clear that Bruce benifits from having Tim and even Rasho to back him up. And it is clear as well that the entire Spurs defense is benifited by having Bruce as the junk yard dog setting the tone.
This team relies on having BB frustrate the other team's perimeter star night in and night out. Simple as that.

No words can adequately do justice to how moronic that statement is. Bruce Bowen is getting too much ing disrespect. This disrespect is because he doesn't have big defensive stats like blocks/steals. Hughes was defensive first team and got a lot of attention because he was the leader in steals for long stretch, but he is hardly a good defender. Actually Duncan is the defensive system but Bruce is by far the best perimeter defender.
