taken while hiking up Vernal Falls in Yosemite

A view of Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls in Yosemite, from the top of the valley... Vernal is the one on the bottom, Nevada the top

A view of Yosemite Falls. I jumped the fence and took a couple of pics from on top of the dog-looking rock too, but they didn't come out as nice. It's 3000 feet straight down from there

The Tunnel View, that Ansel Adams made so famous

Another pic from this amazing viewpoint

View from the top of Nevada Falls

Another view looking down from the top of Nevada Falls... it's about 600 feet down

View of Nevada Falls from near the top

    Nevada Falls from a distance

I think this is the Sentinel Dome in the background.. taken from the valley

The Half Dome... about 8800 feet. Next time I go I'm going to climb that ... didn't have time this time

Side of a cliff at dusk, taken on the trip back down from the waterfalls

Shot of me from a cool viewpoint on the road through Sequoia Park, just south of the Giant Forest

Shot of me standing near the edge of the cliff where Yosemite Valley is, 3000 feet below

A view of Vernal Falls, near the top

View of the Merced River (I think), from just past the top of Vernal Falls, I believe

View of the Yosemite Valley Meadow (and my homeboy's car)

Looking up at a Giant Sequoia tree (taken with a disposable camera)

    Nice Pics.

I visited Yosemite a few years back, because I wanted to see El Capitan in person ( A guy I know is the first person who ever climbed it solo - and he wouldn't stop telling me how beautiful Yosemite is).

The whole place is absolutely gorgeous, I definitely want to go back some day and spend more than just a day there.

Great shots - brings back great memories - thanks! Always nice to tour Yosemite early when there is still lots of runoff in the streams. I've been in the fall/winter several times and the flow over the waterfalls is usually reduced to a trickle by then.

Great Pictures. Wished I was in shape to hike some of those trails. You must have
hated leaving the place. The pictures of the falls are really great. Thanks for
    the treat.

Thanks for the comments... no picture can do justice to just how amazing this place is. Next time I go I want to spend 2 weeks and just go across as much of it as I can on foot. It looks 50 times better in person. It's weird.... those two waterfalls I took pictures of are so loud you can hear them (not faintly either, they're pretty loud) from the 3 miles or so away I was when I took the pics from above. I only got to see very little of the place in the two days I was there, but it just seemed like a lot more fun to hike up the waterfalls than to take photos of all the big attractions from the road. Going up the trails makes the visit 10x better IMO.

When I went there was still a pretty significant amount of snow right on the side of the road at the north end of the park, near Mono Lake. It's kind of weird to stand in snow packs and see the beginning of a river.

The Sierras get a LOT of snowpack in most years. Not too far away (as the crow flies, anyway) is Mammoth Mountain, a ski area that sometimes is open until June. 668" of the powdery stuff last season including a record 105" in April!

This year the season went all the way to July 4th.
