Tough call. The Pixies by a hair.
Radiohead
The Pixies
Both were great. Which do you like better?
I go with Radiohead.
i'll take XTC over both?
Can't vote since I've never really listened to the Pixies, but I've heard from a number of friends that they are great. Aren't they one of Cobain's biggest influences?
BTW, Radiohead is a great band. My favorite album of theirs is definitely OK Computer, then second is either The Bends or Kid A.
The Pixies were Nirvana before Nirvana -- back in the days when alternative music couldn't get on mainstream radio.
Massive noise guitar attack + massive hooks + lovably bizarre lyrics.

i agree. i dig em.
There were plenty of other pre-Nirvana alternative bands besides the Pixies, and some of them sounded a lot more like Nirvana than the Pixies did, strictly speaking. The reason I think of the Pixies that way is that they had the same gift for creating hooks that Nirvana did.
I'm on mirc downloading music right now, what Pixie albums should I nab?
If you only grab one, get Surfer Rosa. Doolittle is a close second.
i would recommend doolittle first, with surfer rosa a close second. either way, can't really go wrong
Both bands have great music - however, Radiohead manage to grow and evolve together, instead of wanting to kill each other, as was the case with the Pixies. So Radiohead, who have successfully created more varied sounds in addition to their ability to stay together and continue creating new material, have the edge in my mind. But it's all relative.
Radiohead >>>>>>>>>>>> The Pixies.
i am one of the very few who thinks the bends is way better than any of radiohead's subsequent albums
I can see why you think that, because I think it is better than their newer stuff. Although my favorite is OK Computer.
Tough one...
My gut reaction was to go for The Pixies. However, I've got CDs by both and listen to Radiohead more often, so they get the vote.
I'm going with the Pixies based soley on the points they get for pretty much creating a genre.
Never decided to listen to the Pixies, but some days I think Radiohead is one of the most overrated bands ever, some days I think they are awesome.
Pixies Plan Live Acoustic DVD
Nearly 40 years after Bob Dylan plugged in the amp heard ‘round the world at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, the Pixies ventured a step back into the acoustic world at that same festival with a set of stripped-down versions of 22 of their best songs. Now the rest of us finally have something to show for it: the Pixies: Acoustic - Live in Newport DVD.
August 22 will see the release of the DVD on Eagle Rock Entertainment. In addition to the band's entire freshly reunited 2004 festival set, the DVD features a 21-minute behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals for the show (their acoustic debut!), including an attempt at deconstructing "Debaser", which ended up being cut from the final set list.
