QUITO, Ecuador - Maria Esther de Capovilla, a 116-year-old woman believed to have been the world’s oldest person, has died in her native Ecuador, her granddaughter said Monday. Her successor is likely a woman from Tennessee.

Capovilla died early Sunday in a hospital in the coastal city of Guayaquil, said Catherine Capovilla, a property manager and real estate agent in Miami. A funeral was planned for Monday.

Congrats, Shoog, you are now famous.

After early accounts of people living as long as over 900 years, pre-flood, the Bible statement in Genesis 6:3 that a man's days will be 120 years seems to hold true. You just don't hear of anyone living beyond 120.

Supposedly, the island of Okinawa has the most centenarians in the world. Average life span for women there is mid-80s and high 70s for men. Lots of green, leafy veggies and fish diet.

I don't wish to offend you, but I don't believe the bible has any insight whatsoever as to the life expectancy of humans.

I would be very surprised if anyone lived to 120 at the time the Bible was transcribed.

Just for those who are interested, there is another view on what was written in Gen. 6, which could be correct, and that is God was saying that The Great Flood would come in 120 years. To be fair, historians also point to that opinion as the meaning of Gen. 6 when it says (verse 3) "Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."
