The team today is getting eaten alive by players that they regularly beat.

Do they want it more than them? I don't know, thats hard to say, I wouldn't say its out of the realm of possibility.

The missed putts and oppurtunities this afternoon are maddening.

Guys like Zach Johnson, Brett Wetterich though should NOT be on the freakin team.

The selection process for the americans on the Ryder cup DESPERATELY needs to be changed, to go with the hotter or players playing better the year of the cup, ala the way the europeans do it.

i wouldn't call it choking, they have been dominated by the euros for at least a decade now. i think the selection process takes into account how successful a player is over the 2 years between the cups - you get a certain amount of points for placing in tournaments. i think it's probably more a function of the american players playing for paychecks - you can make a whole lot more money on the PGA tour than on the euro tour. they're more used to playing for their meals, in a matter of speaking. i could be totally wrong.

as a matter of fact, the only american events that jump out at me as being match play are the public links amateur tourney and the us amateur - they may just have forgotten what match play strat is like, or are just out of sorts with better ball/best ball and alternate shot formats.

Since I've said this they have a shot at halving one, right now Mickelson made a putt close to to take the lead 1 up with 2 to play.

Woods Furyk are dormy with DOnald and Garcia, if they can halve that, along with Johnson and Cambell, that could be huge.

if the American scan halve two, and win the other two, then the Ryder Cup is up for grabs baby.

Furyk puts the ball in the water, pretty much sealing 1 point for the Euros.

Cambell and Johnson halve the match with Micginley.

Cink.Toms are in a good position to take the lead. and Toms misses it.... all square with 1 to play.

Mickelson and Dimarco just need to hold on and win that match, and hopefully Cink and Toms win their match and can go into saturday evened up.

Match play is so much different than stroke play. In stroke play you can make up for a few bad holes over the course of the four rounds. Not that much room for error here, and people who almost never play match play will not be accustomed to it.

    Very true.

Not like the USA basketball team who can practice games.

Maybe future Ryder Cup captains should encourage more participation in match play events from players who might be or potentially be on the team.

that and the fact that you can beat someone by several strokes in stroke play but end up losing in a match play situation. triple bogey on a hole only loses you one of 18, when in stroke play it can put you down 4.

Dimarco misses the putt to win the match.

Montgomerie witha putt to halve the match

If the Americans lose this match, its gonna be close to impossible to win the cup.

Well we awaken this morning to Tiger and Furyk getting totally smoked down 3 to Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood.

Mickelson and Demarco getting an asswhooping from Sergio Garcia and Jose Maria Olazabal

Zach Johnson and Scott Verplank 2 up with 4 to play vs Patrick Stenson and Padraig Harrington.

Stewart Cink and JJ Henry are all square with Paul Casey and Henrik Karlsson.

if Cink and Henry can take the lead they play the Euros to a stalemate in the morning, wich prob aint bad, but it aint great either.
