It must suck to capitulate to the terrorists, hoping to appease them so you're not attacked, only to still be on their target list...

Today's history lesson boys and girls is that you can't appease the terrorists, you've gotta kill enough of them to make them leave you alone.

The Iraq war is a fiasco, and in a few years we are going to lose the war unless the U.S. changes its tactics against Insurgents (don't count on that happening). Spain did the right thing not bowing to political pressure from the White HOuse to continue to kill innocent Iraqi civilians. Under W, there will be no honorable end to the war in Iraq but withdrawl.

Our presence in Iraq is a magnet to the whackos to come fight the great Satan...even the most liberal of the media acknowledge that the bulk of the opposition fighting us in Iraq arent actually from Iraq but the militants from surrounding countries...and we are killing the crap out of them...

now granted that these guys achieve martyrdom and get the virgins, but tests have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that death makes these guys operationally ineffective in our world 100% of the time...

    sooo...I seee us as...

    the great terrorist bug zapper!

well thank God they didn't get "owned"

countless people would have been massacred.....

Spanish soldiers fought bravely next to our own before they were pulled out....and while i'm sure the people being afraid fresh of the train bombings had some impact on the elections, i think the previous leaders were thought be untrustworthy in the eyes of the Spanish people, and that's what ultimately led to their downfall....

Their new government is more anti-American than France and Germany....Spain getting schizophrenia during a world crisis is nothing new...this is usually their response to major wars...it's why they stopped being relevant centuries ago.

He's also saying that it's "honorable" when Spain pulls out, but if W should do it it's automatically dishonorable.

And then he wonders why some people think there is too much anti-Americanism in the Democratic party.

Between those kinds of statements and Kerry saying it's only honorable if American Soldiers die under the UN flag...It's really not that hard to see why the Democrats are getting their assses kicked in the political arena.

no wonder he loves john kerry.

i suggest you(nbadan) go to the airport and tell the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines that they are only killing innocent civilians when they return. i'm sure they will kill one more civilian.

Are you guys reading the same article I did? Spain busted a terrorist plot or two. Was Spain supposed to let them happen instead? Was Spain supposed to stop working against terrorism after their election?

Let me see if I can explain it to you. There are several European countries that you despise because they did not join the US in invading Iraq or they are leaving Iraq. You seem to think that is because they are soft on terrorism. That is wrong, wrong, wrong. Instead, they think that invading Iraq is the wrong way to fight terrorism. The election in Spain was not about fighting terrorism or not fighting terrorism. Instead, it was about how to fight terrorism. Uncovering these plots show that Spain is working hard on this problem.

Also, it didn't help that the previous government tried to blame the bombing on the Basques when it was Islamic terrorists. Spanish voters seem to dislike lies from their government more than American voters.

The point they are making is that the Spanish electorate responded to the terrorist attack by voting for the candidate committed to withdrawing the Spanish presence in Iraq. If I am not mistaken some part of al-Qaida praised that election result and stated that Spain would not be attacked again (they might have made that claim before the election, as in 'if you elect the Socialist candidate then there won't be any more attacks'). In any event, we see the result.

The point they are making is that the Spanish electorate responded to the terrorist attack by voting for the candidate committed to withdrawing the Spanish presence in Iraq.
And not voting for the candidare who lied about who caused that terrorist attack.

Anyway, everything else being equal, do you follow a policy that increases terrorist attacks or decreases terrorist attacks? I understand very well that you and Bush believe that his Iraq policy will decrease terrorism. In kind, I hope you understand that I and apparently the majority of Spain believe differently. We've gone round and round on that issue for quite a while. If that is what Spain believes, it makes sense for them to withdraw from Iraq. You can't first assume that Spain believes what you believe, and then infer Spain is cowardly or stupid for not acting by your beliefs. Believing something does not make it true, and that applies to all of us.

Which aspect(s) of pre-9/11 US government policy increased terrorism?
