If linebacker Donnie Edwards and agent priced or lengthed themselves out, that is one thing.

If this is just GM AJ Smith hatin on Donnie for his calling out in previous years for an extention, that's b.s.!

Yet another clutch INT in what should have been a Chargers win over Pats.

Will be a good signing for someone, but hes so damn old, one has to wonder how much longer he can hold up

Naw this is new age new era. With steroids n supplements they can last.
How old were the Pats linebackers in the Bowls.

But i hear you on the age.
To me what would be totally fair would be to pay him a good amount for a one year with Chargers, like 5 million. So he can pusue a SuperBowl one last time before Shotenheimmer entirely blows the window of SuperBowl talent the Chargers have had and might have for one more season.

Can you believe what a real playoff coach would have done with Chargers 2004-2008?

I dont even think his production will fall off next year, not the way he is built, injuries concern me more than anything about the guy. Im sure tha Bolts wont be bringing him back getting Foley back though, I wouldnt doubt in the Pats took a run at him, excactly the kind of player they like

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm sure the patsies need another aging veteran LB.

One more season? You do know that 16 starters are signed through the year 2010 right?

Yeah but how long can LT keep it up?
No signs of slowdown but he has a lot of miles.
The defensive backs are by far the weakest link. It was only Merrimans and others rushing QBs that kept them from getting exposed. They were a flat embarrasment in the Patriots game.

    Unforeseen injuries.
Rivers already with an injury on a freak play. Sounds like he is okay but now they are talking surgery, albeit the spin is "minor" surgery.

I'll be thrilled if they run thru 2010.
My point Sanity is this year and next would be slams for a good coach.
Even 2004 (the Martyball end of game playoff loss to Jets)
and 2005 "best team to never make the playoffs" were blown opps.
This year was the topper IMO. Next year will be the 2nd best shot in this run.

Having players signed, and actualy keeping them is one thing. No contract is guaranteed in the NFL. Just wait for Rivers or someone to ask for more money, and we'll see how many of those 16 start getting cut.

AJ Smith has managed his cap brilliantly and is considered as one of the top GM's in the league. With my estimates, they'll be 21 million under the cap this offseason.

Next year will be their best shot as Rivers will have learned more. You can't count the best shot as a year that includes a first year starter.

Donnie Edwards is a solid player. Even though he will be 34 in March, he still has some left in him for another 3 years.

We shall check back at this time next season and see.
I doubt everything will line up in '07 like this 2006 season for this Charger core. I will be very happy to be wrong.
But we know reg season don't mean squat compared to playoffs.
Pittsburg bowls after 10-6 when they did not after 15-1.

Also you can toss it anyway and everyway but bottom line this was the 5th #1 seed to be a Marty failure. He must say something or do something to elicit chockage from enough players to produce the continued Ls. He couldn't even bowl with Joe Montana.

Back to topic, to me it will be completely fair to offer Donnie Edwards one year so he can Bowl with this core. If Edwards turns it down, ce la vie. To not even offer it is bullcrap.

I agree. Edwards should be offered at least a year. He is very skilled in coverage. But, the Chargers are very deep in the LB core, and if he does leave........oh well.
