Not that much. His last two teams barely gave him a chance to blossom. Orlando is playing him the wrong way.

I don't think he can play any worse, but can play much better if give the opportunity. And Darko is strong as now, so he must be working hard when he's not playing - good sign.

IMO, Darko will go into the market looking for far more than the Magic or any other team is willing to offer. My guess is that he'll take the 1yr qualifying offer and become a FA in 2008. The dollar figures he was throwing out while playing well for Orlando were up near the double-digits per year....no one will sign him for that, especially not the Spurs.

I really agree. I've been saying this all year. He's 7 foot. Athletic, polished, and agressive. I'll agree a bit TOO agressive at times, but he's still very VERY young. I think he's coachable and defensive minded. He can hit the chip shot that Rasho could'nt and it twice the shot blocker.

I heard from a reliable source that Darko's a Serbian gangster. He's got bodies back there.

Sure, Darko would be a great addition, but no way we can afford him. Someone will give him 7-8/yr.

Yet when he was a Piston or earlier in the year most Spurs fans thought he was a total waste of anything resembling talent.

Curry, Chandler, and Nene all got closer to $10M a year and every single signing was scrutinized in the media because none of those players deserved that kind of money to that point. While all three players have begun to live up to those contracts, it's equally as possible that they could've continued to disappoint. Kwame Brown also got that kind of money and he's been nothing more than a decent role player/defender.

One last thing....Why spend $7-8M per year on a project Center when the Spurs have one already that comes at just over $2M per year? And that doesn't include either of the frontline prospects the Spurs have overseas (Scola & Mahinmi) or the possibility that the Spurs snag a F/C in this draft heavily loaded at that position.

Butler is short and fat. Millicic is tall, fit and more talented than all those players you list.

If Butler is the Spurs future center, then we're in big trouble.

Please stop referring to Darko as a "project". What you've seen is what you'll get.

Correction, Butler WAS fat. And Butler may be short-er than Milicic, but 6'10 for a F/C ain't bad.

I would also debate you on whether Milicic is better than those other players. Darko will never be the rebounder that Chandler is and he'll never be the dominant inside player that Curry is.

He may have a different game, but it's certainly not better than a top 5 rebounder and a snubbed all-star.

And unlike you, I'm fairly comfortable giving Butler a shot to prove he can be a legitimate piece of this frontcourt going forward.

Either way, he's still a victory cigar. I'm sure the Spurs could find one at a cheaper price.

Darko´s mid range jumper is one of the best (as far as centers in NBA)+he never had the chance to play big minutes on the tams he´s`played for(detroit orlando)in order to get used to a sistem.
he can be great for the spurs.Oh almost forgot he is also a good Fts shooter.

Anyone who saw Darko play last year in the World Championships knows what this guy can do. It is plain ridicolous that a Pistons fan would trash him. Joe D made a great decision, it's too bad the coach could not use him. But Darko is not even 22, and Curry and Chandler had their "breakout" years at 24. It takes time for big men to develop. Darko has quite a mean streak, and is already a better shotblocker than Howard. He tends to get some silly fouls sometimes but he will learn. And he has already developed post moves and a jump shot. If he makes a right decision this boy will be really really good. And I have heard that he wants to play, he wants to go somewhere where he can get minutes. Hill terribly missused him this year, because they were trying to develop Howard. But if they get their head straight Milicic and Howard will be a tandem that will rule the NBA for the next decade. I think they can be better than Bosh and Bargnani but we'll see. I think Darko has a bright future ahead of him.

you surely haven't seen him play, his hands and coordination are far superior to kwame's and better than most young big man arond the league. Probably only Nene, Curry and Biedrins have better hands.

I doubt Darko wants to play for the Spurs, and the Spurs don't have the $$ to sign him anyway.

There´s no way to compare Butler with Milicic.
its like to compare a Ferrari with a Pinto.
