I always took it as a foregone conclusion that Tony would sign with the Lakers in 2011. Tim will be 35 then, and the le-winning days will be over.
I apologize if this has been posted.
In the Sports Illustrated "Spurs: A Dynasty in San Antonio", there is an article on Tony and Eva.
On page 60, Tony is quoted as saying:
"We need to live in the same city, so naturally my decision [where to sign when contract expires] is going to be effected by Eva and her career."
Eva adds, "Are you sure you want to say that? You don't want Pop to get mad."
Now, the article says Tony's under contract until 2011. Also, Eva loves San Antonio, and they're building a house here.
On the other hand, Tony has always wanted to be a superstar like Michael Jordan... I have to wonder if he feels San Antonio is just not going to get it done.

I guess I was always hoping Tony Parker was going to be the centerpiece of the Spurs after Tim retired.
, he's already won a Finals MVP at age 25, and has 3 Championships.
Then again, Eva will be 36 by then. Won't she have to retire from acting?![]()
Whats the over/under on how long they will be married? Hollywood odds probably wouldn't have them still together in 2011. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but 2011 is a rather long time from now...alot can change. Maybe she won't even be a popular actress any more. She could always take over as the World Car girl in 2011. That way she keeps acting and he stays a Spur.
Wow, I must be getting old.
4 years is not a long time...
(laughing at Eva being World Car Girl, though. I love watching the current one try to be more "conservative" at showing off her breasts).
Tony is not a centerpiece kind of player.
I thought he'd made it pretty clear that he puts up with playing in a small market because of Tim Duncan and all the winning. Once Tim Duncan is in decline, and the Spurs are a .500 team, then playing in a small market becomes untenable.
More than likely, when Tim is near retirement we will have to explore the option of trading Parker anyway.
who knows.may be in 4 yrs Eva will be just an old jobless real desperated house wife who wants to stay in S.A. living the simple life.
Its 2011. A lot can happen between now and then.
I disagree. Tony beat out Tim for MVP at age 25! He could be the Centerpiece of the Spurs in 2011, assuming we get the right pieces around him.
Ay, that's the rub. If the Spurs decline to .500, Tony leaves.
they'll be divorced before then.
Eva will be old.
Tony will just be in his prime.
mark it.
I've posted at least 20 times that it won't be long until Eva drags Tony to L.A.. Foregone conclusion. 2011?? Man, that's a stretch that it'll take till then, but it could happen.
Tony cannot betray the Spurs!
ducks, what say you?
maybe Eva could make her own version of the Paris/Nicole simple life show from S.A. so they can stay in town.
imagine Eva milking the cow and feeding the animals..........sky high ratings...
James Worthy, Jo Jo White, Cedric Maxwell, and Joe Dumars have won Finals MVP's, and they weren't centerpiece players either.
And once Tim is in decline past the age of 35, the Spurs aren't going to be anything special anymore.
All good things have to come to an end, and I guess for the Spurs the end is 2011.
I thought Eva came from rather humble beginnings in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She's no Paris Hilton.
I wouldn't worry so much. From what I understand, Eva is a Spurs fan, not just a Parker fan.
but She is superstar now.
Yes, that's true.
Great story in the article about how Eva met Tony. She and her father were invited to meet the players after a game. She didn't want to, her father did. So she goes down and meets Parker, and since she just got back from France, was able to introduce herself in French.
Parker invited her out to dinner, and the rest is history.
The finals was the perfect opportunity for Tony to win the MVP. He had nobody to play against him. He didn't have that good of a series in any of the playoff matches because he had good PGs in front of him.
He also plays good with Tim on the court.
I don't think he can be as good without Tim and with a good PG in front of him.
If you think he is franchise player you are dreaming.
Tony played great in every game in the Playoffs. Sure, he was the best in the Finals, but it's not like he choked against Nash or anything.
Well, I'm assuming two things:
1. Tony will get even better.
2. Spurs will find other talent to surround Parker with.
Maybe I am dreaming, but I see Tony Parker as the future of the Spurs.
I don't think Eva is so much the issue, other than as an excuse.
Parker has talked about this, out loud, in interviews. San Antonio is an "adjustment" for him, coming from a world city like Paris, and the lack of exposure in a small market bothers him, but he gets to play with Tim Duncan and win a bunch of rings, and that more than makes up for it.
Couple that with his hedging about where to play after 2011, and talking about "Eva's career," and to anybody not in denial, he might as well have tattooed "I'm gone when my deal is up" on his forehead.
The Lakers? Why the Lakers? Why does everybody still think the Lakers are sospecial? They are a very average team in a fast free fall to mediocrity. When Kobe leaves they will not receive fair value. The list of teams and GM's(i.e. Bob bass) that used to help build the Lakers are no longer in abundence. By 2011 the Lakers will be in the lottery ...for the third year in a row. If Tony wants to play in LA---without a Tim....then good luck.
Aye, that's probably true. Tony is no Robinson or Duncan (and not just in talent). He wants the money, the endorsements and the fame.
In fact, Eva, if anything, might be a force to keep Tony in San Antonio.
He could be a very big fish in a small sea, or a medium fish in a huge sea (LA). Guess we'll find out in 4 years.
No, no, it's not playing for the Lakers that will draw Tony.
It's LA itself. His rap career, the endorsements, the fame: everything will be bigger in LA.
Just one more reason for me to hate "Los Angeles." City of Angels my ass.
