I've never heard of it. The only after school thing I knew of was the YMCA after school care.
Do any of y'all know anything about an after school program called "Learning Tree"? I have an interview tomorrow with them for a position coordinating the program at one of the elementary schools. I don't remember it when I was in elementary school (1991-1995). If you don't have it at your school or you aren't a NISD parent, is there any after-school related you would like at your kids elementary school?

I asked one of my neighbors about it last year, since her son takes part. What she tells me is that it basically is glorified daycare for parents who can't pick their kids up early enough. That's all I could get out of her
I read somewhere that it is a government funded program that poses as an after school program, but uses psychological and drug based programs in order to study the effect of suggestion agents on pre-adolescent to mid adolescent brain development. Sounds kind of cool. Have fun!

The Learning Tree is a free (grant-funded) after school enrichment program that provides fun, hands-on enrichment classes with topics such as cooking, crafts, dance, science experiments, reading, music, drama and much more. Other program aspects include sports, homework help, daily USDA snack, community service, service learning, character development, and cultural activities. Bus transportation home is also provided.
For families, the Learning Tree offers monthly parent events and opportunities to become involved with the school.
The Learning Tree is not a “drop-in” program. To make best use of our grant funds, to meet grant requirements, and to ensure each child receives the full benefit of the program, students should not have more than 3 unexcused absences and early pick-ups per semester. Parents should plan to leave their child at the Learning Tree program for the entire program time, every operating dayAn After School Program Specialist will coordinate the Learning Tree program for your campus. The Program Specialist will have an office on-campus, is an employee of the district’s Adult and Community Education Department, and will work closely with parents and the school administration.
