There is a new training hill at Spurscamp and Timmy has been reported to working it harder than anyone. It seems that Duncan has something to prove this year and will start the regular season in the best shape of his professional career.
Also, the Spurs will use the money gotten from Houston (in the Scola deal) to pay the luxury tax. However, the roster will still be set at 14 men.

So he is running up and down a hill?
I get it now. Like Rocky in Rocky IV. Does he have a long beard as well?
I always hate these "best shape of his life" rumors. I guess hearing them every summer from Lakerfans talking about Shaq made me skeptical.
Duncan had something to prove last year and came into camp in the best shape he'd been in in years. (Both he and Pop said so in camp and at times during the season.)
We know how that worked out for the Spurs.
I believe the repeat will start with Duncan. If he comes into camp with his mind and body on this track we will do it.
I think every year every athlete claims they are in the "best Shape" ever. I've heard Ray Lewis say that every year the last four years only to see him every year get ran over more viciously every year.
Am I missing something? Why would Spurs fans be very afraid that Duncan was getting in shape?
did duncan get ticked and decided to work on his game so he would win the finals mvp
Actually you should be very afraid because Dirk spent his summer hiking across Australia with his mentor/coach Holger.![]()
If actually true, this makes me happy.
Rocky IV beard training mofo 4 lyfe!
Last time I heard Duncan has been staring at a wall.
i hope they don't sit on 14 players just to save a little bit of scratch off the LT
I saw Tim at the ty bar making it rain last weekend.
Great, running hills like that increases the chances of chondromalacia.

I thought that hill left when John Lucas left. Anyone else remember the "Green Monster" that Lucas had the Spurs run up and down for half of training camp?
That hill, or one like it, has been behind the Spurs Practice Facility for as long as I can remember.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I'd rather hear "Tim is really churning up the pool running in the water."
The John Lucas hill was put up at Trinity or Incarnate Word, I forgot which. The angle was also much steeper than the current bump the Spurs have back there now. Lucas also had the Spurs doing those tennis player drills to improve hand-eye coordination.
Hopefully Duncan did most of his work in the pool this summer.

Unless your quads are kept strong and supportive, running hills, particularly downhill, can really work the underside cartilage of your kneecaps. Makes weepy knees weepier and creakier.
Yes, exactly, the Lucas monster was first built out there when the Spurs were working out at IWC. It looked pretty steep but the one behind the Practice Facility isn't exactly a Nicole Richie bump, either.![]()
Does that go for an exercise like running the stairs or bleachers? I can't imagine the pounding would do your meniscus alot of favors either?
Yes, particularly downstairs.
