Q: Talk about your own future. How many teams have you been in contact with?

A: (Friday) morning was the first time - we had talked about the buyout and agreed on it four or five days ago, but (Friday) was the first time I ever really signed anything to be bought out. I really couldn't talk to any teams until then. After that, I've been in contact with San Antonio, I'll be out in San Antonio next Monday. Not a bad place to be at all, the world champions. I'm going to work out with them and see what the opportunity is there, and I'm pretty sure I'll have some other things come up.

    Awesome find. Props.

I'm not sure how I feel about Hudson. On one hand he's a chucker who doesn't play defense and doesn't have a good at ude. On the other hand, he'd probably be a low risk, medium reward type signing. Pop instructs the team's point guards to all shoot as much as possible, so Hudson would fit like a glove in that regard.

If he signs for the minimum and the Spurs then opt to trade away Beno, I'd be a decent signing. Not great because he's a player who can do more harm than good.

Interesting. I have thought about him since he has been released. He is better than Beno of course. If he comes for the minimum I would like to have him. If he doesn't work out just waive him.

P.S. The article was released on sunday, does that mean "next monday" was yesterday?

I seriously question what the F.O. is doing. It seems they don't even have a plan.

A veteran who got bought out and can be signed for a minimum contract is a classic Spurs move.

Highly doubt anything comes of it. It's probably just a "due diligence workout", as RC likes to say.

Yes, but it also indicates there's nothing going on in any other area, nothing immanent happening (Udoka). Which Monday did he mean? Yesterday or next week?

That said, his best season was about four years ago and he's been an injury-prone not much since.

False...it could also indicate they are getting ready to move/looking for a way to move/ Beno and Barry...something they are not going to do with only Jacque Vaughn, Michael Finley and Marcus Williams as the reserves. In particular I think it's the Vaughn situation that is the most worrisome to them.

That said, his best season was about four years ago and he's been an injury-prone not much since.

I will agree with you on this...Hudson pretty much sucks....he was decent one year...but he's been on a serious decline every since.

If it's for the minimum contract I'm OK with but I'd like to see the FO finding another wing

Does that mean Marcus Williams won't be signed?

Strange move. Spurs are going after a poor man NVE while the original has been a disaster.

Hudson is a talented player and is only 31 years old. If he is healthy, he could be a very good backup PG. Vaughn is a solid PG who won't lose or win games for you, Hudson can win a game for you.

If Spurs sign Hudson, I hope that :
    - It will be for a cheap contract.
    - Spurs won't hesitate to trade/waive him if he hurts the chemistry.
    - Pop won't stick with him if he sucks like he did with NVE in 06. I'm quite confident on this one because NVE had a way better career thant Hudson and because Vaughn is a way more solid alternative than Beno.
    - Vaughn will be fine with that.

Baring these conditions, it will be a decent signing that could become a great signing.

It likely means too that Spurs have some serious offer for Beno. I don't see Spurs signing Hudson and keeping Beno.

Exactly my thought. This is a less accomplished Nick the Quick with even fewer point guarding skills.

If the Spurs have an offer for Beno, I hope they wouldn't seriously wait until finding his backup. Pull the trigger.

Udoka would take some of the mle
not even half maybe the rest could go to hudson

hudson could have floated the name spurs out hoping to get other teams to get him an offer or bigger offer then what spurs would pay

Trading Beno just to trade him make no sense.
I don't think Spurs will trade Beno without a reason to do so (money, roster spot, getting an asset by trading him...) .

    "due diligence workout"

What do the Spurs not already know about this guy from his many years in the league that a workout will reveal? His current hair-style? Any/too many new tatoos?

A physical tells the Spurs if he's healthy enough to sign, a workout doesn't reveal everything.

I think the Spurs just want to talk to him.

Maybe they're just trying to scare Beno into jogging a few laps this summer.

For the roster spot, as I and everybody else on this board has been mentioning for the last month.

As long as we have Tony and Jacque a third pg is going to see severely limited minutes. Maybe the FO sees him a kind of "instant offense" pg while Tony rests. Beno is doomed to be locked to the bench next year anyway. On some other teams Beno could contirbute more because they don't demand the D. If we moved Beno and signed Hudson to a vet's minimum wouldn't we gain $$$ to spend on someone else?

What's the interest of having a roster spot available if you have no one to fill it ?

Who cares who you fill it with when you can get rid of Beno's salary and useless body and there are a number of good options for third point guard in his stead?
