At the moment, it’s not entirely clear where Croshere might fit into the plans for the coming season – although he has reason to be optimistic. Croshere, as you mention was an extremely important player on that 2000 team, which was coached by Larry Bird. Of course, the President of Basketball Operations doesn’t set the player rotations, but it is safe to assume that Bird values Croshere, whose 3-point shooting could be a major asset.

Last season, it boiled down to a choice between offense (Croshere) and defense (Jeff Foster) for coach Isiah Thomas, who usually went with defense. Croshere, then, needs to show enough defensive improvement to push past Foster in the rotation. Because of the combination of his contract and lack of playing time, there have been trade rumors for the better part of two years now. Most teams are very reluctant to take on a hefty contract with multiple years remaining, which makes a trade difficult.
