I think if Manu becomes a starter, our bench is going to suck, specially if we don't get Barry back. Not that Barry was doing that well to begin with, but still.
I'm not saying he sucks as a sub; we all know he's the best 6th man in the NBA.
However, It seems to me that Manu is better as a starter; when he had those back to back 37 pts games vs Dallas and Utah, or as his numbers over the last 5 games can attest, he's been MVPesque as a starter (plus, they won the aforementioned games)
In the 2004-2005 season, as a starter, his confidence was soaring.
What do you think ?

Really tuff call.
Yeah, I think Manu is doing better as a starter...but, he's had to. The question is, can he do this thru the rest of the season?
When Tony comes back, as a starter or off the bench, Manu wont have to produce this much. Will that help Manu, or hurt him/us? He's really feeling it now, will giving some of those points to Tony take Manu out of his MVP run/status?
I dunno what we should do. I sure like him coming off the bench...but, you sure can't argue with the way he's playing as a starter.
I'm just glad I don't have to make this decision. But, yeah...with the extra minutes as starter and point guard, Manu is playing the best ball he's ever played in the NBA.
Nice dilemma to have. Good luck Pop![]()
actually Mike's been doing pretty well coming off the bench so for now I wouldn't change a thing.
start manu and damon and have tony come off the bench![]()
Tony can't come off the bench. Eva will not have that
Yeah, Mike has been doing rather well coming off the bench. And I also think Manu is in a zone right now, he's really rolling as a starter. So I wouldn't change anything at the moment with the line ups. You don't really change what is working for the moment, that is.
I liked the line up last night with Manu/TP/TD starting together...because now we have Ime/Finely/Damon/Horry coming off the bench, and those guys seem to be finding their way lately...all are doing a decent job indeed. Plus, add Kurt Thomas to coming off the bench, he can also produce offense.
If a player is especially in a zone, I don't think changes should be made...Also, Pop can simply lower Manu's minutes a bit when he's a starter.
This starter, let Manu rule Spurs!
With Tony out, Manu is forced to play more minutes, period. He's playing a career high 31.7 per game, almost 4 more than his career avg.
Of course Manu starter is better than Manu 6th man, but right now the Spurs don't need starting Manu with the ty job the bench has shown lately.
let's be honest. we all know Manu is just getting in form for his defense of olympic gold.
the thing with manu starting is that the spurs won't be able to maximize point production early in the game. there would also be concerns about continuity when the 3 take their rest. so far, finley has been doing well. of course, he has been the main gun during his mav years. its really a nice problem to have.
The game against NO was the first time the whole team got involved in kicking ass WITH a scorching Manu...
It was only that end of the third quarter and angry NO team that led Manu to save us again
You can't argue with 8 out of 9 wins. So I think Pop shouldn't make the adjustment yet, and just keep Manu starting, especially since Finley is producing and we got Udoka and Stoudamire on the bench to test out.
Starting Manu > than Bench Manu, and Bench Manu was already pretty good this year.
If the Bench continues to suck without any of the Big three, then I think Pop will sub in Manu, but Manu should play 32-35 minutes now and get inserted with Tim a lot more. They are really connected now.
Start Manu! I hated the way the Spurs would always dig themselves a hole in the first half and expect Manu to bail them out in the 2nd.
Start Manu, build a lead, let the lead slip a little when the bench is in, then put Manu back and widen the gap some more.
200% agree
Has manu started to many games to be able to be the 6th manu or does he still have a chance if he comes off the bench the rest of the year?
so basically this is manu's team not duncan's right?
ducks, Tony sucks and Manu is better than him.![]()
Lovely another manu sucking thread.
his numbers are down because he says he is tired
not because he is coming off the bench!
I think unfortunately, Pop has set his mind on having Manu from bench the rest of year, a big mistake in my view...
2nd game out of two that Spurs start horribly a half... not a good trend...
They are just discussing whether it's better for Manu to start or to come off the bench for the team...It is a subject that has been discussed often...even Pop has kept going back and forth on what to do...off the bench, then a starter, off the bench, etc...
I don't see anyone worshiping him...
Until, of course, ducks came in and tried to turn it into TD vs Manu...anything to slight Manu as usual.
Manu should be starting and Parker off the bench. Manu's offense>Parker's offense so I think you need to get the most out of Manu. Parker will take the 6th man role.
