yeah.
im kinda shocked to read so many spurs fans thinking the spurs should flat out dominate these hornets. Or even that they should win these games without question and it would be disasturous if we losed to them. well lets all realize something spurstalkers, THIS TEAM IS THE REAL DEAL!
I think any team who has won as many championships as the spurs have in less than 10 years will tell you, it is to get to the top of the mountain. Its not supposed to be easy. As a matter of fact, its supposed to be . especially if you are the modern dynasty that is the san antonio spurs. Everyone wants to be the team to slay the dragon. its extra motivation all the way. And just for the record the team who prevent the spurs from repeating the past 8 years have gone on to the NBA Finals. Its not like we lose to weak pathetic teams.
And if the spurs get pushed to the brink of elimination, it doesnt say anything about this teams desire, intensity or capability of repeating. it just shows how tough the west is. i honestly believe the spurs have the TOUGHEST path to the NBA Finals, Phoenix, Hornets, and LAKERS/UTAH??!! that is ridiculously hard. The spurs will probably have to go thru many game 7's. but this doesnt mean the spurs are a bad team or a s of thier former selves. it just means that the playoff road is much tougher and more intense than years past.
So dont fret spurs fans, until i see the spurs fishing photos on TNT, than i know that the spurs have no chance of repeating.
dont be surprised either, this is the toughest road they have EVER had. or any team has had in the past 10 years.
I completely agree. I am shocked by how many fans on this message board are trashing the spurs' effort and will to win a 5th championship. Being a neutral fan with no particular rooting interests in this series, (i just love the NBA and have a lot of respect for the spurs and their championship lore - i happen to be a knick fan) I believe I am in a great position to say that the New Orleans Hornets are a terrific basketball team and are being totally underestimated on this site. I mean all you spurs fans who just expect your team to walk all over the hornets need to wake up and face reality. The fact of the matter is the Hornets are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA (this is by far the most underrated aspect of their team) and have a legitimate top five NBA player. They won 56 games and have now blown the spurs out 5 times this season. It's time to realize that they are every bit as good as the spurs are (and may very well be a little better) and you must stop trashing your team for struggling to beat them. If the spurs go on to lose this series (still a big IF in my mind) they will have nothing to be ashamed of. They will have lost to an up and coming team with many great playoff runs in it's future. To say otherwise is to do great damage to the cherished principles of logic.
(I also want to say that this is one of the very best basketball forums on the web and spurs fans are among the most intelligent and well versed basketball fans around. I am happy to be a new member here.)
great to see someone i can agree with...this is far from over, and to question this teams desire and intensity is just stupid.
What?? People are starting to think that the Hornets are great? We've been trying to stay under the radar all season long....we're not ready to pop out. We've enjoyed people questioning our abilities all season long and it has kept the spotlight OFF of us--the way we like it. Leave us alone and let us just win our games, like we have all season long.
haha I hear ya man. But hey your team is really talented and has a great future regardless of whether they win this series or not. And yes, I think the hornets are an excellent basketball team and have been gravely underestimated. Sorry if I blew their cover. (It's ok though, somehow I suspect that people realize that they are not a fluke by now - whether they want to admit it or not)
i just get upset when "spurs fans" start calling duncan a p***y or a wimp if he struggles a couple of games. what ungrateful punks. after all hes given to san antonio. his heart, his body, his life, and this is the support he gets. ingratefuls. these are the same people who trashed him all year for subpar performances and once the game 1 of th playoff hits and duncan goes for 40 and hits the biggest shot of his career, hes all of a sudden the best ever....please....i would expect more from so called experts like "TIMVP" but hes also a prisoner of the moment himself. duncan struggles a game, hes "pathetic". Duncan goes for 40, "hes the greatest"
please spurs fans, you all ridicule the spurs for being inconsistent, but you spurstalkers are just as inconsistent
I question Tim's focus. He looked hesitant, unsure of himself and not very determined. He did great on the boards but his offense was bad. Manu had 15 pts in the 1st half and 5 in the second. Too much settling for 3's. Just like in game 1, we made our 3's in the 1st half and we relied on them in the second.
You add the careless turnovers with the easy buckets we gave up in the lane and you have an L.
Just bad, bad play.
i dont mind fans saying we played bad and we deserved to lose but dont call tim names and say this team shows no heart.
This is a great post. Tim Duncan is an all time great player and possibly the best power foward to ever play the game. He gives everything he has on every single play and he has been one of the most clutch star players of his generation. He's won as many fnals MVPs as SHAQ and more rings than Hakeem. To trash this guy after a few bad games after all he has done for this franchise is an absolute disgrace. (How many players would struggle as badly as he did from the field in a big game like last night's and still have the toughness to give his maximum effort on the boards the way he did - the dude had 23 ing rebounds!! I personally think he's the second best defensive big man in the history of the sport. (I think Bill Russell would have to be first) He is also one of the most consistent rebounders in the history of the NBA and has one of the most versatile offensive skill sets I've ever seen. Please keep in mind that I am a die hard Knick fan. (I'm not a spurs homer) I watched Patrick Ewing play in his prime (another all time great player who was horribly under-appreciated by spoiled fans who didn't realize that he was surrounded with no talent) and I would take Duncan over him hands down. And I think Ewing is one of the most overlooked great players in the history of professional sports. You guys should really cherish this guy while he's still here and at the top of his game because players like Tim Duncan don't come around very often. (You'll be extremely lucky to get another player half as good as Tim Duncan has been)

Yes, we know Timmy is the man...it's just that recently...this year especially...he whines a lot to the refs...it only hurts him in the long run, because the refs get sick of it and will refuse to call fouls just to teach him a lesson. He needs to man up and be the awesome force he is supposed to be.
well maybe its because hes getting fouled! i dont like it either when he complains too much but let the guy complain a little, hes got 4 rings! he of all players has the right to question the refs. but yea i do agree with you. too much just looks kinda bad. im sure pop will let him know.
The Spurs are a great team, but so are the Hornets...they have a bright, bright future ahead of them...I see 2 or 3 les in the next decade for them at a minimum. It's no shame to lose to a team as good as the Hornets, but the Spurs have the talent to win this series if they will just FOCUS...dig down deep inside and find that spark, that power, that they had in Game 3 vs. the Suns and Game 4 vs. the Hornets, and they cannot lose.
QUIT WHINING AND KICK SOME ASS, GUYS!!!
i think they need fan support now more than ever! san antonio needs to loud and crazy tommorow!
extra motivation couldnt hurt
