Question: Given the foreign talent and restrictions in buyouts, Euro vs dollar, salary limitiations on late first round picks has a very early second round pick become more valuable than a very late first round pick given the Euro talent pool?

Depends on the depth of draft class. In a very deep draft class, such as this one, I would say so.

Currently for international players with prospects to play in Europe it has.

For domestic players, it depends. On the one hand, a second round pick gives you the opportunity to negotiate a contract with very little guaranteed money. On the other, a late first round pick allows you to lock up a very talented player for up to five seasons at a below market salary.

The Spurs have at least once (if I recall correctly) traded a late first round pick straight up for an early second round pick (in the same draft, I believe).
