Gilbert Arenas said he opted out of the final year of his contract by filing the necessary paperwork on Friday.

The move makes Arenas an unrestricted free agent and teams will be able to negotiate on July 1. Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld has said the team plans to re-sign Arenas and Antawn Jamison, who will also be an unrestricted free agent. Arenas wants a max-level contract for about six years and $120 million, but has said he would accept less if it helps retain Jamison. Arenas would have a better shot at a max-deal if he didn't have two knee surgeries this season. Jun. 9 - 9:25 pm et

IIRC, wizards played pretty well w/o agent zero. theres a good chance he signs elsewhere.

Nope. Arenas declared publicly that he's going to take less money to re-sign Jamison. This is a necessary money move. Sign Jamison first, take what's left. That's what they said on Wizards Radio. Just a formality.

Arena(edit: s) sucks. Any team that signs him is doomed to years of early round playoff exits.

everyone knew this was gonna happen. he said it before the season started.

he wants a max deal, but like others said he will accept less money if it means they resign antwan jamison.

maybe the Blizzards don't want him back. Personally, I think he'd be better suited for the Mavs.

why, why, why? why would he publicly state that he will wait for the wiz to sign jamison and take less money? He has 2 bum knees and he's willing to take a pay cut for a team everyone knows has no chance of winning a championship? Is he freakin in love with jamison or something? He's not a team player and it sucks if he's gonna be all righteous now and go TD with his "ill take a paycut just to make our team stronger".

Arenas's injuries are the big deal. He's just a great player and killer shooter but he can go down any time during the season and you are done. I don't believe any team will pay him 20 mil at this point.

Who cares. Arenas is overrated. He chunks up so many shots to get his average. He is not worth a max deal much less 8 mil per year anyways.

    Pass.

    3 million isn't a paycut. Signing for 10 million if a paycut.

average atheletes getting paid more then Jordan
