They both drink a lot of beer
Rory must be on the wagon!
way too early to compare, dude
I did write some thoughts about Rory in the other thread you created about Tiger/Jack
I'll project that Rory will be at least the third best golfer of all time, or 4th if you count Bobby Jones who is actually mostly important for historical reasons.
Rory will end up better than Phil Mickelson, for example.
Just to compare Phil to Rory, Phil did not get his 2nd major until he was 35 years old. Phil did not get his 6th top ten major until he was 26 years old, and did not make his 14th cut until he was 26 years old. Rory is way ahead on all counts, he did all this stuff when he was 23, and still has next year's Masters to go when he will still be 23.
It's not too early.
And boy has he learned a big lesson at Augusta, already.
He has the potential to be as good as anyone, ever, based on his incredible swing, length off the tee, and savvy both on and around the green.
But, I still want to see him in more pressure situations on Sundays in majors before I can even utter his name in the same breath as Jack/Tiger
Lets compare Rory to Arnold Palmer:
Palmer won his 2nd major at age 30.
Palmer got his 6th top ten at age 29.
Palmer made his 14th cut at age 30.
Okay dude, I get the fact that you can do research. But do you have any original takes on the kid's game?
not attacking you, just wondering what you think
personally, I couldn't believe how many puts he made today. I think McCord said something about him being "in the zone" (an overused cliche', imo, but not in this case)
He made so many crucial up and downs. I'm incredibly impressed with him thus far
I'm also really amazed by his poise and graciousness. The latter being something that Tiger completely lacks
I have not watched him play yet, I just go by stats.
Do yourself a favor and watch him sometime
My first real golf memory was Jack winning the masters in 86', so it's hard for me to compare the old greats with the newer ones
I will say that I don't think comparison based on stats alone tells the whole story, but that's just me
There are a couple other touted young golfers out there, let's take a look at how they stack up with Rory:
Rickie Fowler (age 23)
made cut 9 times in majors (pretty good, but Rory has 14 at same age)
one top ten (Rory 6)
no wins (Rory 2)
Jason Day (age 24)
made cut 6
top ten 3
wins 0
a good start, but not in Rory's league.
Keegan Bradley (age 26)
made cut 5
top ten 2
wins 1
Dustin Johnson (age 29)
made cut 13
top tens 5
wins 0
Charl Schwartzel (age 27)
made cut 16
top ten 2
wins 1
Webb Simpson (age 27)
made cut 4
top ten 1
wins 1
Martin Kaymer (age 27)
made cut 11
top ten 4
wins 1
Ryo Ishikawa (age 20)
made cut 6
top ten 0
wins 0
don't forget Louis Oosthuizen...he's 29, though. That's just off the top of my head (he won the british open at age 27)
curious where you get your stats...PGA.com?
wikipedia.
Rory is amazing....he hits tigeresque recovery shots. I knew he was gonna win when he got the birdie at 2 off those wood chips.
Nobody will ever have a Tiger 2000 season again though.....that was literally the perfect swing.
Rory has Caroline Wozniacki, so this debate is over.
I hate Tiger but acknowledge his greatness
You think he can ever approach anything like his old form? He won some tourny's this year and repaired his world ranking, but dude is a s of his former self on weekends at majors. Not one round under par? wtf? Mofos used to just melt when he rolled up wearing red... Now, I just don't think anyone is intimidated anymore
jmo
Hogan and Sam Snead had perfect swings.
It appears his swing was just too violent and broke his body down.
yeah, that's what I think too. If you watch him on swing-vision, it appears that he has changed his swing to take pressure of that left knee by pointing his toe outward as he comes through the ball.
Rory is on pace to beat Tiger Woods!
Using this point system:
win = 3 points
top 10 = 2 points
made cut = 1 point
Rory is best, 32 points
Jack, 31 points
Tiger, 30 points
