Unless one of the few teams with money opens its vault to him, it appears Corey Maggette has only the midlevel exception available --- and that puts the Magic in the running. Things will heat up this week when teams can sign free agents on Wednesday, so....

The 5 Reasons Corey Ought To Choose Orlando To Play:

    1. It's homecoming, sort of. Maggette began his career with the Magic, acquired in 1999 and then traded the next year. The Magic will issue a formal apology for this transgression. Despite that, Maggette has always liked it here. A few years ago, when he was the subject of trade talk, he intimated to me (heck, I wrote it) that he'd love to come back. His parents lived here at one time (and still might).

    2. Dwight Howard. Hey, Maggette has a chance to play with the most dominant young big man in the league. Tim Duncan is 42. He'd get so many wide open shots because of Howard that his shooting arm might fall off.

    3. The Eastern Conference, home of the Magic. The Boston Celtics are the champions, true, but they needed two longtime players from the Western Conference to win it. (See KG and Ray Allen.) The West is still the toughest from stem to stern as Maggette knows more than anyone, having getting beat on most of his career as a Clipper.

The Celtics are getting old fast, ready for blue-plate specials. The Pistons are so yesterday they are putting their whole team on E-Bay. LeBron? He's already planning his escape to New York/New Jersey. The Magic are coming on strong, having reached the semis this season.

    4. The shooting-guard spot is yours, Corey, and trust me: Stan Van Gundy has never held up the stop sign. You want to have some fun? You want to shoot at will? Rashard Lewis won't mind if you do some of his scoring; he's that accommodating. You can be the guy who is considered The Missing Piece To A le Run. You'd be just another guy under the whip with the Spurs, and you'd have to time-share with Ray Allen in Boston.

    5. No state tax! If this isn't a tie-breaker, nothing is! If Maggette is making "only" about $6 million a season, he'll need the break.

    For Spurs:
    1. homecoming, you got a chance for a championship.
    2. Tim Duncan.
    3. Western Conference, where the real challenge is. You would be able to say I won a championship and got past possibly the toughest Western conference in history.
    4. Same.
    5. Same.

So basically this guy is making ridiculous/untrue statements about every other team in contention to land Maggette while falling to his knees and begging Maggette to come to Orlando. Great journalism. Hopefully Maggette reads this article. That should do the trick for Orlando!

I don't think thats a bad idea for him to play for the Magic. Good young team, great big guy in Howard, I love the coach, its in the East. I think that would put the Magic 2-3 best teams in the East. Personally I think the team the Pistons have now will take a big hit in the rankings next year if they don't make a major change.I don't hear any rumblings from the Cavs or Wizards. Toronto is up in the air if you believe O'Neals knee is damaged good. If you are signing for 6 mil for 1-2 years that would be a nice place to land.

If he comes to Philly he'd have to pay the state tax and the city tax. So I guess the Sixers are out.

and that would be cool, then hopefully the mavs can pick up Maurice Evans. He can hit the 3, is very athletic, and plays good defense, and can chip in a good 15 or 20 points any given night. he would be a nice guy to have off the bench.

Bullet #2 is so bogus. Duncan had a strong playoffs. He put up 41 and 15 in his first playoff game... Take that!

Consider two people who decided they had better things to do than play in Orlando: Shaq and Tim Duncan, who combine for 39 championships.

People who thought Orlando was just the place for a free agent like them: T-Mac, Grant Hill. Talented shooting guards like you Corey. They both left there damaged goods. And I'm pretty sure that Disney puts in the water there that makes you buy Hannah Montana merchandise.

Five top reasons for CM to join Orlando.

    1. He won't have so far to go home to watch the Spurs win another NBA championship.
    2. He can take his family to Disney World everyday during the finals.
    3. He can enjoy no state tax to go along with the higher than average cost of living. (Oh yes, don't forget the cost of Hurricane insurance).
    4. By the time his team matures he will be on old man and can be called an elder statesman.
    5. He will get plenty of playing time because he will have to be the starting shooting guard and backup center cause the Magic will no longer be able to afford a bench with CM's signing. Oh yes, he may have to double as the water boy to make ends meet in Orlando.

I thought the exact same thing when I read it. Guess that whip is doing something right if it equals 4 Larrys in our trophy case.

...and how many you got over in Orlando?

Yeah, Dwight Howard with his ONE assist per game. Wake me when he learns to throw a pass out of a double team.

Yup, Superman never needed a Robin. He doesn't know how to dish the ball off for a dime to save his life.
