Dr. J is a cool dude. He was injured in his last trip to SA, so he stayed and just hung out and talked with my dad and I for maybe 10-20 minutes outside the locker room before the game. I got a couple of photos with him, an autograph of my '86 Fleer card, and the chance to talk with a legend. It was a pretty cool experience for an 8 year-old.

Him saying that is really an honor for the spurs.

Dr J was/is a very classy guy and player.

that's kind of logical he's appreciating spurs organisation.

I can atest to that. I had the good fortune to have met the "Good Doctor" a couple of times as a kid and later as an adult. He made quite an impression on me as a young boy and later as a young man. He is truly a class guy and the ultimate professional. A truly grounded, down-to-earth, guy.

As for where he would play on the Spurs, he's instantly become the starting SF - and would be the unquestioned "second best" rebounder on the team. He was truly an all-around player, who could block a shot or steal the ball, just as easily as he could score.

Some little-known info on his college career stats:
    - Led the NCAA in rebounding as a junior.
    - One of only seven players in NCAA history to average 20 points and 20 rebounds per game.

Dr. J has always had some nice things to say about the Spurs and our players.

He was quoted years ago during his career as saying George Gervin was the player he most enjoyed watching. Smart guy!

    Great vid.

Obvious to see that Dr J was an inspiration for MJ.
You definitely can recognize some Jordan's moves and at udes in those highlights.

I am pretty certain it was game two of the NBA finals in 1982. If not, it was game 5. Those were the two games Philly won and I am pretty certain Sixers won that game. One of his greatest shots ever!

I don't think it happened in the 83 finals, I think Landsberger was gone by then, Kurt Rambis took his spot as the hustling white guy on the team.

that IS awesome...and the manu vs dr j thing? that's NOT even a question. Dr. J 7 times a week and twice on Sundays. The guy personifies class. He's super intelligent and one of the good guys. For him to say that means he loves the game and appreciates good basketball and how it's supposed to be played. It's a HUGE honor, no doubt.
