Austin is great. Perfect location between Dallas, San Antonio and other small places. Lots of live music, a unique culture with so many things to do (night life, restaurants and outdoor activities).
Austin, actually, only for a few months. I noticed that it's relatively close to San Antonio, so I figure many of you have been there.
I was given the choice by my employer to work in Austin, San Antonio, or Houston, so the question is: Did I make the right choice? Maybe I'll go to a Spurs game this winter and wear my Marcus Banks jersey.

I prefer San Antonio to Austin, but thats just a preference honestly.
son you better learn some spanish
I grew up in San Antonio but split summer and vacation time in Austin and Houston...actually lived in Austin for about a year at one point, and it's definitely the best of the three. The only real beef I have with Austin is that they racially profiled me when they denied my admission to the University of Texas. I actually got a letter from them saying I wasn't Asian or Arab enough to attend their school.
I'm thinking about moving to Phoenix for the cooler weather.
About 90 miles to the SBC center, so not that bad. Houston traffic is horrible and you have to pay a toll every 50 feet. San Antonio (don't get me wrong I grew up here and I came back after going to college in NY, NY, and I love it here, but) Austin has the benefit of having a major university there. Because of that University, there are more things to do there, it is more liberal, sigh, like my old Alma Mater, , San Antonio is at least five times larger than Austin but they have more bands going there.
So all in all, you made the right choice. (6th street)
Austin is alright. I lived there for 6 years. I don't like it but that is because it's where my ex lives lol. If you like live music then that's the spot It is the live music capital of the world. Plus lots of places to see Indie movies. The food is great as well. My favorite chinese joint is a hole in the wall called First Wok. Look it up I guaranty you'll love it.
6th street kinda sucks unless you're in your early 20s, with a few notable exceptions like casino el camino, jackelope, etc. but there are lots of cool bars in the downtown area, and lots of stuff to do. Austin is also becoming the condo capital of the world, with a new condo development cropping up every few yards downtown. All in all, not a bad place to live, but it's getting a bit crowded - i've been here the last 13 years, and it definitely beats the sprawl of SA and Houston.
"Let's go to AUSTIN!!!"
Nice city you'll like it
But there's no place like home in good ole San Antonio!!!
Each has their pluses and minuses. I actually like all three, but choose to be close to the gulf coast and my immediate family.
Austin, Massachusetts ????
The smart move was not picking Houston.
Austin>San Antonio> lots of other Texas City and towns> Houston > El Paso
yes. San Antonio and Houston suck ass. Well, San Antonio is not nearly as bad as Houston, but you get the idea. Austin is great, I lived there for 7 years.
Get ready to despise humidity.
120 AZ heat is weaksauce compared to this stuff.
It's awful in Austin right now, disgusting outside. But Houston is worse (I'm moving there this week for school). You made the right choice.
AMEN!
With the exception of Easjer and SFIE- they are the one redeeming thing Houston going for it.
xylus, you'll love it here buddy. no matter your age or interests, you will absolutely find a way to fit in here. music, great food, laid back people, hot girls, tons of events and music festivals.. , the list goes on and on. having been to the other cities on your list of options, i'm tellin ya, you most definitely made the right choice. probably won't want to leave.
Anything down in San Antonio worth going to is worth the hour and a half drive. Spurs games, Fiesta Texas, Sea World, and the Guadalupe are really the main reasons I come back down to SA anymore, and I spent nearly my whole life there.
Austin just seems to be a little nicer weather-wise, a little more fun entertainment-wise, and a little more laid back social-wise. The people here are more vibrant and endearing than San Antonio, and there is a a wide variety of arts, music, nightlife, and cuisine to choose from.
Sixth Street is always the tourist favorite, the Warehouse District is more for the hip crowd, and Zilker Park does a good job of accommodating the hippies.
For some kickass Mexican food, check out Matt's El Rancho on Lamar and be sure to try the BOB.
i generally prefer some of the stuff on Red River. Lots of good local bands. Club DeVille is also cool.
Yeah, Red River is definitely great for music.
Might also add that Guadalupe St (pronounced Guad-a-loop here in Austin, for some dumb reason) is also a nice stretch. It's usually teeming with the college peeps, but it's got a lot of interesting things along that stretch, as well as the Dobie Mall and a great late night pizza place called Mellow Mushroom.
I've been in Austin about a year and a half now, and am still discovering interesting things to get into. And I used to be bored ALL THE TIME in San Antonio.
Maybe you can be fresh meat at a GTG.
Most Def. I like the stuffed jalapenos as an appetizer too
I would say you made the right choice. I love San Antonio but Austin is way more accomodating to young life. Lots of nightclubs and bars, plus the music scene there is ridiculously awesome. Also, there is a lot to do along Town Lake and the scenery/hill country is awesome. Austin is a nice city. Downtown is one of the nicest downtowns I've ever been to. I think you'll like itGo to a Spurs game
