Looks like the Rockets are not going to sign Deke to start the season. Why wouldn't Deke just sign with another team? I would think he still has value?

He's cheap and still better than Bonner

Deke will be that Big help that weve been lacking for awhile. Last season he played VERY well for the rockets when Yao was out.

I know he can still play defense very well and can block shots better than KT or Fab. I would do it in an instant.

Plus he can be a very good D on lets say...Bynum,Yao or Oden.

send him to phoenix. The guy is good. As long as you are not stupid and play him more than 10 minutes, you'll get some quality D and some rest for your bigs.

He says he only wants to be on the rockets and is waiting for us to clear some space to pay him. Remember, he turned the Celtics down last year to play for us for the min.

Well that's what I'd say too. It's politically correct.

WTF are you talking about? He hasn't had any desire to even entertain offers from other teams and is clearly waiting for us to clear up space (He said this himself).

I believe Mutumbo has already been quoted in the Chronicle as saying that he would only play for the Rockets or retire. Though I can't find that particular article.

I did find this one though that shows Mutumbo is on board with waiting until the Rockets can find the salary space for him:

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/6031212.html

    True center wanted

Though Rockets coach Rick Adelman and general manager Daryl Morey said they are confident about using their rotation of power forwards as backup centers, Adelman said the time will come he will want a true center to play behind Yao Ming.

Dikembe Mutombo said last week he would wait for the Rockets to make planned roster maneuvers to move beneath the luxury tax threshold to sign.

“Eventually we’re going to need somebody behind Yao,” Adelman said, specifically citing matchups with Shaquille O’Neal and Greg Oden. “When you’re playing the Shaqs of the world and now Portland with their young big guy (Oden), just size alone hurts you when Yao is out of the game. We’ll address that as we go. I feel good about the depth everywhere, but when you play a big guy, it’s really hard for Carl (Landry) and Chuck (Hayes) and Luis (Scola) to try to play some big strong, physically dominating player.”

I don't remember Mutombo playing for the Knicks....

But Mutombo is not better than Oberto.
