I just watched Sarah Palin on NBC Nightly News and realized, as a serious political observer, that she should realize when to stop talking. It's like watching a really boring PowerPoint presentation. Between the accent and the longwindedness, pretty soon I just wanted to kick a puppy, . Her saving grace is that you just never know what's gonna come outta her pie hole that'll totally embarrass the Republican Party to a point at which it is simply sucked into that rare black hole of politics into which the Whip Party resides.

The first time I ever saw GWB on the news was while I was at a hotel in Disney World. He was at the Orlando airport addressing some press and the lead story for the day was that some of his ads in some state were shown to have contained subliminal messages.

He pronounced subliminal the way you'd expect he would (or tried) and instead of just glossing over it, he kept trying to say it over and over. It just kept going on and on - it was painful. I kept thinking someone tell the poor guy we know what he means, move on.

Finally he did.

I laughed at my friend who was with me and said "That is what you're afraid is going to be the next president of the US?"

I have still never lived that moment down. And it is the image I think of everytime I hear W speak.

The lack of intelligence is exactly what frightens the out of me. Ignorance can be overcome. Intelligence cannot be altered. You can surround yourself with experts to overcome ignorance, but you cannot make yourself smarter to evaluate decisions.
