The part that bothers me is that idiots give the president waaaayyy too much credit/blame for everything. The economy goes in cycles. Bush didn't force CountryWide and World Savings to start giving out ridiculous ARM loans to people who couldn't afford their houses. The economy was doing well and our society as a whole got greedy - everyone was looking to cash in with no thought of reprecussions. Our country's dumbass citizens and greedy corporations put us in this mess and Bush (and Republicans by extension) are taking the fall. Now we're slowly but surely going to climb back out of this recession and the economy will pick back up within 2 years and guess who gets all of the moron's credit for that? Democrats.

If you're strongly against the war in Iraq, that's one thing. But you can't blame Bush or the Republican party for the economy. Plus, if you care so much about the men and women in our armed forces, I'm sure that the military budget will be slashed much the same way it was while Clinton was in office... so thanks, Troops!

For the record, it's nothing against Obama personally. But the economy will cycle back up in the next 4 years and he'll be blindly re-elected (along with every other Dem on the ballot) in 2012. The campaigning and election will just turn into a formality because people don't have minds of their own and THAT's what has me irritated.

For the almost trillion dollars spent on a stupid war? No, I can't blame Clinton for that... Clinton left a balanced budget, which this guy proceeded to destroy... I can't blame Clinton for that... Bush leaves with the largest deficit ever in this Nation... I can't blame Clinton for that...

We could have paid the economic bailout with that money...
And the reason America is in economic disarray has many factors, not just lame loans... depreciation of the dollar, wasteful spending, ever growing debt, no outlook for a balanced budget and a way to pay that money back... there's many things in play... and I can certainly blame Bush and his economic cluelessness for playing a big role in that...

I blame Clinton for pushing hard for free trade with China on us, ing over American workers by replacing their $20/hour manufacturing jobs with benefits with $8/hour Wal-Mart jobs.

I agree. I don't think Clinton is blameless, but from there to state that Bush had nothing to do with it it's a huge stretch...

"give the president waaaayyy too much credit/blame"

dubya increased his power and unbalanced the Cons utional balances, so he got more power AND responsibility, so tatooing him and the Repugs with problems is fair game.

"didn't force CountryWide and World Savings to start giving out ridiculous ARM loans to people who couldn't afford their houses."

When 19 states saw predatory lending and its dangers, they tried to get it stopped, but dubya stopped them so predatory lending could continue.

It was a Repug bill (Gramm-Leach) that killed Glass-Steagal and gave us Worldcomm, Enron, CDSs, MBSs, CDOs, which are the real problem, not ACORN, which is used as a Repug smokescreen to hide the real (Repug) perps.

It was the 100s of $Bs in Repug tax cuts for the wealthy that fueled the unregulated private equity and hedge fund businesess, that money drove up commodity prices, highly leveraged debt, etc, etc. to the tune of 10 of $Ts of bull "money" that simply cannot be unwound.

    "The economy was doing well"

but the lower 95% weren't weren't/aren't doing well. income and wealth increased dramatically at the top while everybody else lost ground. The lower 95% tried to maintain their lifestyle by using their houses as ATMs, and running up record consumer debt on credit cards with usurious late fees. ie, no real growth in lower 95% wealth, just growth in debt to record levels, while everything, esp health insurance/bills, food, transport increased dramatically.

There is no guarantee that the US/world economy will have a V-shaped recession that you expect, while every indication says it will be L-shaped (rapid drop and long recovery).

Paulsen's daylight robbery of the taxpayer's Treasury has had no effect on credit availabilty, with many lenders even tightening their credit even for credit-worthy borrowers, while financial execs pocket $Ms in bonuses and investors in financial sector get paid dividends with US tax dollars. While robbing the Treasury to finance the wealthy, Paulsen is fighting FDIC's attempt to bailout homeowners.

To paraphrase the French sentiment after 9/11, "We are all suckers now"

Obama will get a free pass on everything because the media will be his #1 cheerleader and he will get unlimited use of the Bush card.

My only hope is that he and the dems really this country up hard. With the media being in Obama's pocket, this might actually give Obama a false reading on reality and lead him to go further then he should.

You're not a real American, hoping your own nation goes down in flames. Take your ass to Iran or one of your other social conservative paradises.

In other words you care more about the republicans winning than the actual well being of America.

Not republicans, conservatives. And not in the social perspective, that does not even matter.

The conservatives have gotten nearly every damn thing they wanted from the Repugs, so now we're ed.

The essential conservative philosophy of all govt, all taxes, all regulations are bad and war-only power-projection is good lies in ashes after 30+ years of ing up the country and spreading US financial ups to the rest of the world.

Or could it be that I believe some of the far-left's agendas are very dangerous to America's greatness and hope people realize it before we get locked into decades of it?

So your ideological beliefs are so strong you hope anyone else's fails at the expense of the nation? I'm sure as not happy the Republican ideology has driven our nation into the ground.

The reason the economy goes in cycles is because the Fed regulates inflation and interest rates. Low interest rates for a short period of time means boom. But then inflation always catches up and your dollar is worth less...then you get a recession as everyone pulls back on loans and spending.

    GET RID OF THE FED!
