Dallas Cowboys blog: Further evidence that Tony Romo really is a swell fella

By TIM MacMAHON / The Dallas Morning News [email protected]
A homeless man who goes by Doc was cashing in change at a Cinemark theater in Dallas when a guy walked up and offered to pay his way into the movie. Doc, who planned to spend his day passing out flyers for a few bucks, accepted a rain check before realizing that he recognized the generous gentleman.
"Was that Tony Romo?" Doc asked the kid behind the counter.
It sure was. Doc hustled across the street to the consignment store that paid him to occasionally pass out flyers and requested the day off. By the time he got back to the theater, "Role Model" had already started.
Romo, who confirmed the story but didn't want to elaborate, waved Doc over to sit by him and his buddy. Doc sheepishly mentioned that he hadn't showered in a few days.
"Don't worry about that," Romo said. "I'm used to locker rooms."
And so the $67 million quarterback and a man who doesn't have $6.70 to his name sat next to each other and shared laughs for 90 minutes or so.
For Romo, who made news by changing a couple's tire on the side of the road on the way home the night of the season opener, it was just another kind gesture to a random stranger. It meant the world to Doc.
"For me, it was a blessing," Doc said. "It came at just the right time. It gave me some encouragement and faith in mankind. I just wanted to say thank you."

Tpark, do you help homeless? if so, what drives you to do it...guilt?![]()
God damn this thread took a hostile turn.
Romo or the homeless guy?![]()
so if the guy is a complete s bag off the field, Rae Carruth, Lawrence Phillips, Michael Vick, etc...it is ok, as long as he wins.........you and your views are why our society is jaded with respect to it's stance on sports.
i want the Cowboys to win......but i also want class acts on and off the field. This is why i am so proud to be from San Antonio and to have the Spurs as my team. Those guys win on the court, but they are even bigger winners off the court.
Maybe he should've bought the dude a hamburger instead.

"Don't worry about that," Romo said. "A lot of people think I stink, too."![]()
I give them jobs.
At least I try to, when I offer them the jobs I always get "I'm holding out for something that pays more"
Yes, someone that has nothing is holding out.
Some of the negativity on this board never ceases to amaze me.
I think it was a very nice and sincere gesture on his part.
We need more acts of kindness in the world.
It's easier to be an asshole over the internet because you don't have to look at the people you're talking to. Half the people on this board are probably McLovin in real life.
People are homeless because of Quinn. Quinn has no pity for the weak.
Wow he gave a homeless man 7$. I hope that didn't put a hole in his pocket. WHO GIVES A
You missed the point completely.
He didn't "give a homeless man $7."
He took a man most people would walk right by, and spent time with him.
He didn't have to do that.
I'm sure that made this man feel great, even if it was only for a couple hours.
Spend time with him? They went to a movie. You dont sit and visit you watch a movie. Im sure the guy would have rather have the money he spent on the ing ticket.
