I do not think the Yankees can beat St Louis because of their crappy pitching, but I think Boston has the offense and defense to match up with St Louis. Boston won season series with New York again this year, 11-8, but they won it last year too, and we saw what happened in game 7 last year, so there is s question in Boston's minds whether they can slay that dragon come October and beat NY when it counts the most. In fact, since 1999, New York and Boston have met 88 times counting the post season and they each have 44 wins and 44 losses, now that is about as even as two teams can possibly be, which is the main reason why this is the best rivalry in pro sports.

Spurm, you are not only on a limb, you are on the thinest limb ever, and you are hanging out over the Grand Canyon in a 50mph gale.

Well, at least spurm picked a team in the playoffs!

Actually, I'm not sure the Twins are such a bad bet -- with Santana leading that rotation (and probably getting 2 ALDS starts), if they can get a good start from either Radke and Silva, they'll be in pretty good shape to advance. The Twins play really good defense and have a nice combination of small-ball guys and bombers in their lineup. Looks like they're going to draw NYY in the DS, so that's a bit tougher, but with the Yankees' barren pitching and a short series, the Twins might be able to steal a game at Yankee Stadium and get through to the ALCS, like they did in 2002.

Quite simply, Johan Santana is a guaranteed win every game he pitches right now, so that's 2 in any series the Twins play. There's only one other pitcher on a contending team who is that dominant right now (Clemens), but his team may not make the Playoffs.
