I drink beer on Sundays so no big deal to me.
Yes!
Some people in south Texas are all too familiar with the frustrated feeling when wanting to run out for a bottle of tequila to make margaritas, and then remembering what day of the week it is. If a new bill gets passed, all that could change.
State Representative Roland Guiterrez of District 119 has proposed a new law allowing liquor stores to sell alcohol on Sundays from noon to six. He says it's not to appease those who just need a Sunday tail, but instead to generate some much-needed money for the state.
"We could provide some additional revenue from sales tax at a time when we have a projected $9 billion shortfall from 2010 and 2011," said Guiterrez.
Guiterrez admits the bill will be hard for everyone to swallow.
It also appears some opposition will come from liquor store owners. Many people say they don't think it would be cost-effective to be open on Sundays, and they prefer having the day off to spend with their families.
Liquor
No. Stupid.
yes. Many times on sundays the wife & I needed tequila or rum or whatever to make drinks
Why?
Why can't car dealers sell cars on Sundays?
Why should there be a law restricting the sale of only a very small, specific list of goods on a day of the week that oh-so-coincidentally is observed as a day of rest by certain religious groups? Separation of church and state should have gotten blue laws thrown out a long time ago.
then don't open your store on Sunday. Problem solved.
It sucked this past Super Bowl Sunday when we ran out of liquor for the margaritas. I vote yes.
Yes, of course.
Why the not?
Beer and wine are already sold so why not?
There is supposed to be a separation of church and state but the reality is quite different. What pisses me off is that you cannot buy beer before 12 on Sunday. That has screwed up a few fishing/camping trips. Any church that wants to see my ass on Sunday better be serving $0.25 longnecks.
prohibition was repealed long ago, draconian.
I would be willing to bet that nothing in the law requires stores to be open on Sundays.
If you want the business, and can make a profit over your expenses on that day, go for it.
Blue laws are edly backwards, I would repeal most laws regarding bans on sales anyways.
Because it's the holy sabbath of course.
It says it in the Bible.
Walter 38:23 "And the Jesus sayeth, 'Do not drinketh thou booze on thy Sabbath. For I am the Lord. Stupid."
Please, I beg of you, don't turn this thread into another religious argument with peewee. No one needs that.
Speak for yourself.
Now that you mention that I may just have to msg him to make sure it happens... j/k.
Was Walter an apostle of Marv or the brother of Herschel?
Why can't they sell liquor in grocery stores like up in Chicago?![]()
only thing i would disagree with Steven there is i believe it's "thine booze"
The liquor laws in Michigan are awesome - they can sell liquor up here until like 200am and at regular grocery stores. So you can buy your vodka one aisle down from the orange juice. It's very convenient.
