Braxton Board Accepts Accused Teacher's Resignation

Toni Lynn Woods is scheduled to appear before a magistrate Tuesday on eight charges of third-degree sexual assault.

The Braxton County school board on Monday unanimously accepted the resignation of a sixth-grade teacher accused of having sex with four children.
Toni Lynn Woods, 37, has surrendered her teaching certificate to the state Department of Education. Braxton County Superintendent Carolyn Long said the county board's action will ensure that Woods never teaches in West Virginia or probably any state ever again.
State Police last week filed eight charges of third-degree sexual assault against Woods.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday before county Magistrate Beth Smith.

Charleston attorney Andrew Chattin was appointed to represent Woods, who remains in the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods.
It's a crime in West Virginia for an adult to have sex with someone who is under 16 if the adult is at least four years older than the juvenile and isn't married to the juvenile.
